How the Reef2Reef Marketplace Works
A straightforward guide to buying, selling, secure payments, shipping, and buyer protection.
What you can buy and sell
Members may list approved reef-related livestock, corals, fish, invertebrates, marine plants, live rock and substrate, aquarium equipment and supplies, approved reef services, reef art and apparel, events, and other supported categories. All listings must also fall within the Reef2Reef forum and market terms of service. Every listing and transaction must comply with Marketplace rules and applicable law.
How buying works
Secure payments and delayed payouts
Stripe processes payments and seller payouts. The buyer pays at checkout, while the seller’s earnings remain held within Stripe until the transaction completes. This delayed payout is not traditional escrow.
A timely problem report pauses payout when the transaction flow permits. Reef2Reef may review the listing, Marketplace messages, tracking, photographs, video, delivery information, and other relevant evidence before completing, cancelling, refunding, or otherwise adjusting the transaction.
Buyer protection in brief
Why sellers list here
Before transacting: Review Marketplace Help & Policies, the Terms of Service, and the Privacy Policy. Keep all communication, payments, refunds, and dispute activity inside the Marketplace.

How buying works
- Find an item and review the complete listing, seller type, photographs, condition, shipping or pickup terms, cancellation terms, and the seller’s DOA policy.
- Pay through Reef2Reef Marketplace checkout. The buyer is charged when the order is placed; outside payments are not covered by Marketplace protection.
- Monitor Marketplace messages and tracking, provide an accurate delivery address, and be available for time-sensitive or live shipments.
- Inspect the order promptly. Do not select “Mark as Received” until the order has arrived and is satisfactory.
- If there is a problem, contact the seller through the Marketplace within the applicable deadline. Use “Report a Problem” before the transaction completes if the seller does not resolve it satisfactorily or immediate escalation is necessary.
- Choose the correct account type and complete Stripe seller onboarding, including any required identity, banking, business, and tax verification.
- Create an accurate listing with current photos, correct WYSIWYG or representative status, item condition, price, handling time, shipping options, cancellation terms, and any live-arrival or DOA terms.
- After a sale, prepare and package the order appropriately. Mark it shipped only after the carrier accepts it and enter accurate tracking when available.
- Communicate through the Marketplace and preserve reasonable listing, packaging, shipping, tracking, and transaction records.
- Receive the payout after the buyer marks the order as received or 14 days pass after shipment with no open dispute. After payout is triggered, bank delivery generally takes about 3–5 business days.

Buyer protection in brief

- Buyer Protection is a review process, not insurance or a guarantee of transactions.

- Reach a community focused on reef aquariums and related products.
- Use documented checkout, messaging, tracking, refund, dispute, and review tools.
- Build transaction history and buyer confidence through accurate listings and reliable fulfillment.
