14. Seller performance standards

Reef2Reef may use the following indicators to evaluate account access, listing privileges, payout holds, education, warnings, or enforcement. These performance indicators do not create separate seller levels:

  • on-time shipment and tracking;
  • seller-fault cancellation rate;
  • response time on active orders and claims;
  • non-receipt, not-as-described, DOA, refund, chargeback, and dispute rates;
  • listing accuracy and inventory maintenance;
  • buyer ratings and substantiated reports;
  • identity, payment, tax, permit, source, and business verification; and
  • compliance with the Terms, these Policies, and Reef2Reef Community Terms and Rules.
Performance metrics are signals, not automatic findings. Reef2Reef may account for sample size, carrier disruptions, severe weather, buyer conduct, fraud, category risk, and other context. Manipulating metrics, dividing activity among accounts, or pressuring a buyer not to report a problem is a serious violation.

15. Marketplace conduct and family-friendly standards

The Reef2Reef Marketplace is part of the Reef2Reef Community and must remain welcoming, respectful, family friendly, and work safe. These standards apply to all Marketplace-related activity and content, including usernames, profile names and profile content, avatars and other images, listing titles and descriptions, photographs, graphics, videos, memes, GIFs, emojis, links, questions and replies, reviews, transaction messages, related Community threads, and any other Marketplace-related content or communications. The Reef2Reef Community Terms and Rules also apply.

15.1 Courtesy and respectful conduct

Members must communicate civilly, respectfully, and in good faith. Disagreements, negative reviews, transaction complaints, and requests for Marketplace assistance are permitted, but they must focus on relevant facts and must not be expressed through personal attacks, insults, ridicule, trolling, taunting, bullying, harassment, stalking, intimidation, threats, discrimination, dog-piling, or other abusive or deliberately disruptive behavior.

Members must not use Marketplace content or communications to provoke another person, escalate a dispute, encourage public retaliation, evade accountability, or abuse another member or Reef2Reef staff. Transaction disputes, review challenges, and concerns about staff or enforcement decisions must be raised through the appropriate Marketplace reporting, support, or review process.

15.2 Family-friendly and work-safe content

Marketplace-related content and communications must be appropriate for a family-friendly and ordinary workplace setting. Profanity, vulgarity, obscene material, sexually explicit or suggestive content, graphic violence, threats, material encouraging self-harm, and other adult-only or workplace-unsafe words, images, topics, links, or themes are not permitted. Additional content may be restricted when Reef2Reef reasonably determines that it is inconsistent with the family-friendly and work-safe standards described in the Community Terms and Rules.

Profanity and vulgarity include masked profanity or vulgarity. Masking includes using symbols, abbreviations, misspellings, altered spacing or punctuation, substitute characters, images, or similar methods to represent a profane or vulgar word or to avoid a content filter. Masked profanity or vulgarity is treated the same as the unmasked word or expression, whether or not an automated filter detects it.

Reef2Reef may edit, restrict, or remove content that violates this section and may take additional action under the Enforcement section below. In determining the appropriate response, Reef2Reef may consider context, intent, severity, frequency, hostility toward another person, prior history, and whether the member cooperates in correcting the issue.

16. Enforcement

Depending on severity, frequency, risk, and history, Reef2Reef may warn a member; require correction or verification; remove a listing or review; cancel an order; hold or restrict a payout; reduce access, limits, categories, or features; suspend or terminate Marketplace access; or refer the matter to an appropriate provider, carrier, regulator, wildlife authority, or law-enforcement agency.

Urgent action may be taken without advance notice when delay could expose a person, animal, transaction, payment, account, or the Marketplace to meaningful harm. Using another account to work around a restriction is a separate violation.

A member may request one review of an enforcement decision within 7 calendar days through Marketplace support. The request should identify the decision, relevant order or listing, claimed error, and supporting evidence. Reef2Reef will aim to respond within 10 business days and may decline repetitive or abusive requests. Restrictions involving safety, fraud, payouts, evidence preservation, legal compliance, or account security remain in place during review unless Reef2Reef decides otherwise.

17. Reporting a listing or transaction

Use the Marketplace reporting tool or Marketplace support to report fraud, prohibited wildlife trade, unsafe items, impersonation, infringement, harassment, payment evasion, or another policy concern. Include the relevant listing or order, a concise explanation, and supporting evidence. Transaction disputes and review challenges belong in the Marketplace process, not public accusation or grievance threads; Community posts remain subject to Community rules.

For an immediate threat to personal safety, contact local emergency services. For a wildlife, import, or animal-welfare concern, members may also contact the appropriate government authority. Reporting to Reef2Reef does not replace a legal deadline, carrier claim, payment dispute deadline, or required government report.

18. Marketplace Privacy Policy

This section explains how Reef2Reef collects, uses, discloses, protects, and retains Marketplace information.

18.1 Scope and relationship to Community privacy

This Marketplace Privacy Policy explains how Reef2Reef Marketplace LLC, doing business as Reef2Reef or Reef2Reef Market (“Reef2Reef,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, discloses, and retains personal information in connection with market.reef2reef.com and related Marketplace services. It is the Marketplace privacy notice.

The Reef2Reef Community Privacy Policy at https://www.reef2reef.com/help/privacy-policy/ continues to apply to Reef2Reef.com and Community activity. Because the Marketplace uses a Reef2Reef account and may create or update Community threads, information may move between the Community and Marketplace as described below. When this section addresses Marketplace activity more specifically, it supplements—and does not replace—the Community Privacy Policy.

18.2 Information we collect

Depending on how a member uses the Marketplace, we may collect or receive:
  • Account and profile information, such as Reef2Reef user ID, username, name, email address, avatar, account status, membership or sponsor status, Marketplace account type, profile details, communication preferences, and verification status.
  • Seller and business information, such as business name, seller classification, contact information, service area, tax or regulatory status, Stripe onboarding status, payout eligibility, and information needed to comply with seller-verification or marketplace laws.
  • Listing and content information, such as titles, descriptions, categories, prices, quantities, photographs, video, item condition, livestock information, location or pickup area, shipping and DOA terms, reviews, reports, and content included in a related Community thread.
  • Transaction and fulfillment information, such as orders, offers, amounts, fees, shipping name, address, and telephone number where provided, billing or tax location, tracking, delivery status, pickup confirmations, refunds, cancellations, disputes, chargebacks, payouts, and transaction-related messages.
  • Support, moderation, and claim information, including communications with Reef2Reef; photographs, video, packaging or condition evidence; carrier records; reports; appeals; and records of Marketplace enforcement.
  • Device and usage information, such as IP address, device and browser information, cookie or similar identifiers, access times, pages and features used, referring pages, approximate location derived from IP address, log and technical error information, and security or fraud signals.
  • Information from other sources, including Reef2Reef Community account records, transaction counterparties, Stripe, Sharetribe, carriers, mapping or media-hosting providers, analytics providers, identity or fraud-prevention providers, public sources, and authorities where permitted by law.
Payment-card details, bank-account details, government identification, taxpayer information, and identity-verification materials may be collected directly by Stripe or another payment or verification provider. Reef2Reef generally receives transaction, verification, account-status, and payout information rather than complete payment credentials, but the provider’s own privacy policy governs information it collects directly.

18.3 How we use information

We may use personal information to:
  • create, connect, authenticate, and administer Marketplace accounts and account types;
  • publish listings, profiles, reviews, and related Community threads and operate search, maps, messaging, notifications, saved listings, and other Marketplace features;
  • process orders, payments, taxes, fees, refunds, disputes, chargebacks, seller onboarding, and payouts;
  • share the information reasonably necessary for a buyer and seller to complete shipping, delivery, pickup, a service, or another Marketplace transaction;
  • provide support; review listings, claims, reviews, and appeals; enforce the Terms and Policies; prevent fraud and payment evasion; protect members, animals, the Marketplace, and the Community; and preserve evidence;
  • comply with tax, accounting, seller-verification, consumer-protection, wildlife, payment, court, and other legal requirements;
  • maintain, secure, troubleshoot, measure, analyze, and improve the Marketplace and develop new features;
  • send service, transaction, safety, policy, and account communications; and
  • send promotional communications or use optional analytics or advertising technologies when permitted by law and consistent with the member’s choices.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, processing may be based on performance of a contract, compliance with law, Reef2Reef’s legitimate interests, protection of vital or legal interests, or consent. A member may withdraw consent where consent is the basis, without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.

18.4 When information is disclosed

We may disclose personal information in the following circumstances:
  • To transaction participants. A buyer and seller may receive names, usernames, profile information, delivery or pickup information, contact information, order details, and messages reasonably needed to evaluate or complete the transaction. Sellers do not receive a buyer’s complete payment-card information from Reef2Reef.
  • Publicly or to Community members. Listings, usernames, avatars, seller status, reviews, public profile information, and related Marketplace or Community content may be publicly visible and may be copied, indexed, quoted, or shared by others.
  • To service providers. We may provide information to Sharetribe, Stripe, hosting, authentication, identity-verification, tax, fraud-prevention, mapping, media-hosting, communications, analytics, support, carrier, and other providers that help operate the Marketplace.
  • For legal, safety, and enforcement purposes. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process; respond to authorities; enforce agreements; investigate fraud, illegality, safety, or security concerns; or protect Reef2Reef, members, animals, or others.
  • In a business transaction. Information may be reviewed, transferred, or disclosed in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of the business, subject to applicable law.
  • At the member’s direction or with consent.
Third-party services process information under their own terms and privacy policies when they act independently. Current provider notices include Sharetribe’s privacy policy at https://www.sharetribe.com/privacy-policy/ and Stripe’s privacy policy at https://stripe.com/privacy.

18.5 Cookies, analytics, and advertising choices

The Marketplace may use cookies, local storage, pixels, software development kits, and similar technologies. Necessary technologies support sign-in, security, checkout, preferences, and core features. Optional technologies may measure use, improve features, remember choices, or support advertising and campaign measurement.

Members can use available cookie controls and browser or device settings to manage optional technologies. Blocking necessary cookies may prevent sign-in, checkout, or other features from working. Marketing email may be stopped using the unsubscribe option, but account, transaction, safety, and policy communications may still be sent.

The Reef2Reef Community Cookie Policy at https://www.reef2reef.com/help/cookies/ provides additional information about cookies used by Reef2Reef. Where the Marketplace or a linked Reef2Reef account flow uses Google reCAPTCHA, Google’s Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy and Terms of Service at https://policies.google.com/terms apply.

18.6 Retention and account deletion

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Marketplace, maintain transaction and seller histories, resolve claims, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce agreements, comply with tax, accounting, payment, wildlife, consumer-protection, and other legal obligations, and establish or defend legal claims. Retention periods vary by record type and legal requirement.

Closing a Marketplace or Reef2Reef account does not necessarily remove information that must be retained, information already shared with a transaction participant, or public content that Reef2Reef has a legitimate reason to preserve. We may deidentify information and retain or use it in a form that cannot reasonably be linked to an individual.

18.7 Security and member responsibilities

Reef2Reef uses reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information. No website, transmission, or storage system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Members must protect account credentials, use accurate delivery information, avoid posting private information publicly, and promptly report suspected unauthorized access or fraud.

18.8 Privacy rights and choices

Depending on where a member lives, the member may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; to withdraw consent; to opt out of certain targeted advertising, sale, sharing, or profiling; and to appeal a denied privacy request. Reef2Reef will not unlawfully discriminate against a member for exercising an applicable privacy right.

A request must provide enough information for Reef2Reef to verify identity and locate the relevant records. An authorized agent may submit a request where applicable law permits, subject to verification of the agent’s authority and the member’s identity. Some requests may be denied or limited when an exception applies, including for transaction records, fraud prevention, legal compliance, security, free expression, or legal claims.

Privacy questions and requests may be submitted through Reef2Reef’s contact form at https://formcrafts.com/a/hjdnrrw. The requester should identify the request as Marketplace-related and provide the Reef2Reef username and email address associated with the account, but should not send a password, complete payment-card number, or unnecessary identity document through the general form.

18.9 International processing

Reef2Reef and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those countries may have different privacy laws. Where required, Reef2Reef or the applicable provider will use a recognized transfer mechanism or other legally permitted safeguard.

18.10 Children and Marketplace eligibility

The Marketplace is limited to people who are at least 18 years old and is not directed to children. If Reef2Reef learns that a person under 18 has created or used a Marketplace account, Reef2Reef may restrict the account and delete or retain information as appropriate for safety, legal compliance, transaction integrity, and applicable law. The separate Reef2Reef Community may have different participation rules.

19. Marketplace disclaimer

This section summarizes important Marketplace limitations in plain language. The Reef2Reef Marketplace Terms of Service contain the controlling warranty disclaimers, releases, liability limitations, and indemnification terms.

Reef2Reef provides a venue, transaction tools, payment facilitation, records, and review processes. Unless an official Reef2Reef listing says otherwise, Reef2Reef is not the buyer, seller, breeder, propagator, importer, manufacturer, veterinarian, carrier, insurer, appraiser, or guarantor. Verification, reviews, badges, moderation, and sponsor status do not guarantee identity, expertise, legality, quality, compatibility, delivery, live arrival, or outcome.

Livestock, biological materials, equipment, services, shipping, and pickup involve inherent risks. Names, photographs, measurements, care or compatibility statements, and categories may be incomplete or vary with lighting, growth, stress, age, biology, and husbandry. Marketplace and Community content is general information, not professional advice.

Third-party websites, carriers, payment providers, maps, links, integrations, and services are operated by others and may change, fail, or impose separate terms. Members must use judgment, research legal and livestock restrictions, inspect listings and seller policies, communicate through the Marketplace, and meet claim deadlines.

Nothing in this disclaimer excludes a responsibility or consumer right that applicable law does not allow Reef2Reef to exclude. If this plain-language section conflicts with the Marketplace Terms of Service, the Terms control.

20. Policy changes

Reef2Reef may update these Policies as described in the Terms of Service. The current version and effective date will appear on the official Marketplace Policies page. A transaction is generally governed by the version in effect when the order was placed, except that Reef2Reef may apply an immediate safety, legal, security, or fraud-prevention rule when reasonably necessary and permitted by law.
