How to use this?

Have this lying around. Bought my tank and got this included. I was reading the label and it says remove unwanted algae, well that is what I'm dealing in my tank. Suggestions?

Bio pellets are typically used in a bio pellet reactor, they are a substrate to grow bacteria that uptakes nitrate and some phosphate as they grow (this is very similar to carbon dosing, which is easier and cheaper). The uptake of nutrients is what *might* limit algae growth, but it's not a direct thing, like, add bio pellets, and your algae will suddenly decrease.

Lower Nitrate (and Phosphate) with BioPellets

Looking at these little plastic pellets, it is difficult to imagine how they actually lower nitrate (and phosphate to a small extent) in a reef aquarium! The reality is, bacteria is doing the real work, but biopellets are the catalyst your tank needs to heavily produce this bacteria. In an aquarium,

So I'm guessing they work the same as running a chaeto farm?

They perform the same function but in a different way (reducing nitrate, and to a lesser extent reducing phosphate). I've never personally used a bio pellet reactor, but I've read that they can take quite some time to start to "kick in" and actually reduce nitrate. I think a better and easier/cheaper strategy would to to dose carbon (vinegar or vodka), or to add macro algae to the display, or to run a macro algae 'fuge, like your chaeto farm

Okay! I just wonder what it is for since it just sitting there. I have tangs, but they dont even eat the algae. I never seen them graze (spoiled). I might have to get some sea hares, cuz the algae is growing so fast.

A good Clean Up Crew is another good way to fight algae. Urchins are excellent, if not a bit destructive

I have 1, he is doing overtime everyday. I used to have 7 turbos, but 6 days dies for some reason. So I'm a bit lacking in CUC, I'm guessing I need to get more soon
