I have been looking into getting a fresh water shrimp tank and was hoping y'all can help me out!
Which brings me to a few questions...
Are questions about freshwater excepted here and if so is there a particular section?

welcome this is a saltwater forum but maybe someone who has kept fresh can answer all your questions although i don't think they is a dedicated fresh water sub forum on here to ask ur questions

Discussing freshwater is kind of frowned on by many members here, but there are a few that also keep freshwater tanks and may be able to help. Or you could just go saltwater ;)

Theres no dedicated sub here but check out reddit, they have some good info over there about shrimp tanks.

These freshwater enthusiasts are our potential future reefers. We need to stop blowing them away and give them an opportunity to get the help they need. I can’t count the number of members with reef tanks who started with freshwater tanks and even their first fish- a goldfish from a fair
