You can private message me about freshwater. I keep 2x 60 gallon tanks.
And greetings from a fellow Texan!
Maybe a moderator can help out here, but is it okay to start a thread for my questions, or do I need to keep it within private messages? There are freshwater persons here including myself who owned an LFS
What questions do you have?
Nice! Eastern Bluebirds are fun! I saw a few this morning.Welcome Kevin, glad you are here! I’m Kevin as well and enjoy my birds. A lot of people on here keep both saltwater and freshwater. @Calmwaters , @00W .![]()
I appreciate it Kevin, when my kids were little I got the guide to North American birds because they would always ask me. I got pretty good but here’s a couple that stumped me. :winking-face:Nice! Eastern Bluebirds are fun! I saw a few this morning.
Also, if you ever have a bird you need identified let me know.
Clearly that is a Purple-headed Sparrow-Hawk from deepest Africa with it's chicks and a pair of Mongolian Albatross.I appreciate it Kevin, when my kids were little I got the guide to North American birds because they would always ask me. Yep I started fresh. Agreed! Haha. These freshwater enthusiasts are our potential future reefers. We need to stop blowing them away and give them an opportunity to get the help they need. I can’t count the number of members with reef tanks who started with freshwater tanks and even their first fish- a goldfish from a fair

I think if you are only going to be talking freshwater, there are threadsThanks for the warm welcome! I am in no way apposed to saltwater, but at 18, I'm only going to spend so much on an aquarium and a small fresh water tank will scratch that itch, for a reasonable price.

Great pic! I have a lot of those guys in my area of Upstate/Central New York. I believe you can set half oranges out to attract these bluebirds; I'd like to try that someday.Welcome Kevin, glad you are here! I’m Kevin as well and enjoy my birds. Good morning Mr. Fan, I was surprised that about 15-20 years ago when I first started setting up my bird feeders that all winter long they would attract eastern blue birds. Since they are primarily insect eaters I thought they all migrated south. But I put out four different types of suet, one has berries and another mealworms. They really prefer the one with berries. The wood peckers like them all. I get at least 3-4 different types of woodpeckers all winter long.. Around the 14th of this month the bird feeders go down and the hummingbird feeders go up. I never knew how many hummingbirds were around until I put up the hummingbird feeders.Great pic! I have a lot of those guys in my area of Upstate/Central New York. Oh! I did hang a bat house like 4 years ago..... It works great for attracting woodpeckers lol!
Thank you for your reply! We have lots of woodpeckers all year, I'd like to see more of the Bluebirds. I do know they like suit with fruit. We were feeding just a mixed seed for the last couple of years, but it makes a huge mess. I'd like to try a more targeted approach for the birds we want to attract. I'd love to seem more hummingbirds too, we've placed feeders but maybe get one or two a season.
