Humidity in home

How big does a tank need to be before you have to start worrying about home damage from humidity? I want a 300 gallon but worried about damaging my new house. I don't know how big is to big in this case

You may need an air exchanger. I had a 120g in a medium sized bedroom, mostly kept the door closed due to cats (haha), and I had to install a bathroom fan to help (running 24/7), as well as, during the summer, running a dehumidifier in there.

285g in the living room, 65g in the dining room and 40g in the bedroom. All summer it's either windows open or ac on (window units). Winter we heat with wood which helps dry things out. I'll run a dehumidifier occasionally on the winter.

So since I live in south Texas my ac will always be on set to 72 period , central air and heat, tank will be in living room also, couple of fans in the corners to circulate air. You think your humidity issue would be okay with just the 285?

Think that extra 195 gallons makes a difference? Are those volumes including sumps?

The volumes are total volumes. For years I had two 180g tanks in the living room one fresh and one salt. At the same time I also had a 150g salt in the dining room. For references it's a small ranch less than 1200 Sq feet and I've been keeping larger tanks here for over 20 years and have not noticed any damage from humidity
EDIT : All tanks are open top. I don't monitor humidity inside because it's almost always humid outside here. We're sitting at 87% now according to my weather app :crying-face:

Thank you that gives me less anxiety about a 300 gallon tank with ac on all the time

In your situation I would monitor humidity levels. If it gets too high, you can add a dehumidifier, but I’m guessing you’ll be fine.

It really depends on what region you live and what part of the house it is in. If your house is sealed up most of the year, it can be an issue. Also, where in the house it is can make a difference based on air flow. I had a 300g tank (600g system) in the basement of my old house and despite dedicated exhaust venting, humidity was a problem. When I had tanks upstairs, I had no issues at all.

You should be fine. I'm in Houston and have never had an issue.
