Hydros Maven is Delayed

I think they just want to make it right with no problems, they just don’t want people complaining on the internet that phosphate or nitrate is not measuring correctly, and even if it takes a year to get it right, it’s better than putting out something that they know is not 100%, for what they are doing is not easy.

well this is really dang disappointing. i wanted to get one for myself this christmas.....im so tired of testing nitrates and phosphates, and i do phosphates 3 times a week with hannah as mine swing a bit. was hoping this was the answer..... i dont need to test my calc and mag really, just want nitrates and phosphates.....maybe alk too

Defiantly sucks. My final component to complete automation for hydros. But I'm happy they didn't rush the product to the market. Hopefully its here by Q1 or the latest Q2.

I have a feeling they wanted to avoid the problems trident had. Trident np got slammed in the reviews which pushed back a lot of people including myself. I bet they are trying to nail down thr phosphate accuracy that plagued trident

I imagine the "improvements" are probably not full features, but just reliabilility and performance improvements.

That said, still odd to me that there is no way to hook the salinity tester to this, and instead you need an entire separate controller for that, that also does some of the same testing. Bit odd.

Would be nice if they added a salinity probe port.

I agree it’s reliability fixes. Trying to avoid trident NP reviews problems. But I don’t think they should be prey about adding other probes. Where does it end? Temp probe and salinity and temp too? How about ORP? Or a DOC tester? Like it’s meant to just test the big 5. Nothing has ever done that before I would be happy with just that.

Difference is that they have many devices that people already have that can take an ORP, temperature, PH, or similar.

The only device they have that can test salinity is the X10, it's $1000 CDN, and I don't need any part of it other than the salinity port.

Although, salinity changes pretty minimally, if at all.

Disappointing for sure, but I would rather wait for a perfect tester vs what happened when I bought the hanna magnesium tester…we all know how that turned out! Hopefully they didn’t use the same reagent supplier.

You don't need an X10 for a salinity port. You can get the Launch since it also has a salinity port. The X10 is just a controller that happens to have 4 smart dosers as outputs and is not specifically for alkalinity testing. You would need the iV also for alkalinity testing but you can use the two and get pH, salinity, alkalinity and temp readings and more since it has 4 sense ports. It also has 2 drive ports but if you use it with the iV the iV will use one of those.

Yep, I was also waiting since its announcement back in April. I guess I’m a bit relieved by this delay because I broke down and purchased a trident a couple weeks ago. I just didn’t want to wait for the Maven to come out, then wait for the guinea pig buyers to review it, then wait for any bugs to get fixed if there were problems, etc. Now that it’s delayed I’m glad I went ahead and purchased my Trident. I don’t know but it’s reported that they may be adding more features and who knows now if that might make its price go up even more.

I might still get one at a later date and sell the Trident, but at least I have some auto testing right now.

Good luck with the trident its been nothing but trouble It has one big huge flaw in my opinion and experience. The electronic board in the front where curvette can get and will get damaged if the trident overflows the curvette and then damages the boards rendering the trident useless. Then after you have to deal with Neptune to try to get it fixed. Speaking from experience on my third trident that has had the same issue. Neptune apex as a whole is unreliable and poor quality almost crashed my tank a few times because an apex a2 decided to change modules duplicate modules etc. Customer service is great at messaging you but not great at solving issues. Oh and be prepared to get the run around long hold times etc. I'm definitely getting it to try if I'm impressed then I will change all my tanks over to apex and sell my stuff. Got thousands worth and its been nothing but errors and headaches. Has not made reefing easier.

I have wanted a Maven since they released information on it, but knew it would be a while so I bought a used Mastertronic off here back in May and have been happy with it.

Sorry you are having so much trouble with Neptune equipment and their service, but I have had nothing but positive experiences dealing with both over the last 25 years. I got my first Neptune controller in the late 90’s and have continued using their controllers and equipment since. This is my 2nd Trident. The first was purchased in 2019 and was sold when taking down the tank. That one and my present one have been working quite well and I’ve been happy. I’m still hoping the Maven works well. It would be nice to have something that tested the big five all together, and with the Neptune NP not living up to expectations yet, I’m still looking towards the Maven in the future.

The announced price for the Maven is $1199. That is the price they gave the vendors, who aren't allowed to change it. That said, it's still pre-release. There's nothing stopping CoralVue from increasing or decreasing it.

My humble opinion is that CoralVue never intended to release the Maven this year. Back in the Spring the Trident NP was coming out. Potential customers deciding between Hydros and Apex may have been swayed by the fact that one system did testing while the other didn't. The Maven announcement came a few weeks before the NP's release date.

It is possible that CoralVue mocked up a case so that they could tell potential buyers of the Hydros system that they had a tester coming soon. Note that since April or May, when the Maven was first announced, we have not seen a single video of it doing anything.

We haven't seen screenshots of the app with the Maven features in it. We haven't seen them run a mock test in a controlled lab environment. That is unusual for such an anticipated device.

The Mastertronic Essential had numerous marketing videos for up to a year before it was released. The Trident NP had pre-release videos made both internally and, just before release, by vendors.

The lack of videos and marketing material in the time after the announcement could indicate that the Maven is nowhere near ready to be released. Carlos and David said they were making improvements to it back in November. Many assumed this meant additional features. It likely meant that they were improving the device's core functionality.

I don't begrudge CoralVue for taking this approach, if it is their approach. They need to do what they need to do in a competitive market. I still love my Hydros devices and can't imagine running my system without them.

The Maven has actually been in the app for the last couple of public releases. Look under outputs.

It’s ridiculous. I bought the hydros in anticipation of the Maven being available. If it really was a ploy, that really discredits them.
