Given your massive collection of Hydros equipment, why would you or they think that you couldn't test every (or most) aspects of it -- if provided?

As much as I am firmly in the 'no way' -- now more than ever given the reagent announcement. I honestly can't wait to see this thing get released -- and truly do wish them success with it.

I was just making the statement that I do not test everything that they come out with. It has to be something that will fit into my system and work with my current tank. Also I do not have the largest Hydros system. I know of others that have larger Hydros systems than I have. I do have a larger system than most users have though. I have had Hydros since a couple of weeks after they came out with the X4 controller over 4 years ago so I do know the system and don't mind helping others when they need help.

In their video they show that you need to scan a bar code from the reagents and it unlocks the maven to do 75 tests then the maven locks back down until you purchase a new reagent and scan that unique bar code to unlock the maven for another 75 tests.

They are preventing you from using any other reagents with their tester. No ABC reagents if you want to use. They will have full control of the unit you spent your hard earned money on and they can brick the unit useless if they decide not to make anymore reagents for your unit and or forcing you to purchase a version 2 of the maven and so on.

This business practice is pretty bad and seeing that fact in their video changed my mind to a hard no for purchasing this unit.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting adding the Maven to my Hydros ecosystem, but just came across this article. No specific release date has been provided which gives me worry that it might be a very long while before we see it.

As with most things, time will tell. But if other products in the Hydros range are any indication, it should be generally well thought out and well engineered.

Very unfortunate. That’s almost like printer manufacturers. But at least they discount the printer and gouge us on the ink.

Didn't they hire the ABC guy to do the maven reagents?

I’d have to assume CV would need to keep the reagent costs somewhat inline with that of other manufacturers for the product to be successful… otherwise recurring costs will drive people to a different solution for their testing needs.

It will be interesting to see what the recurring cost of those reagents are. It might be a deal breaker, it might not. If the cost is too high in relation to other testers on the market then I’d expect product take up to suffer based on simple economics.

Also based on this video starting around 5:33, Carlos indicates you can test “on any schedule you want”. Whether that will be true at release or not, who knows.

From what I understand, there will be no forced minimum test. Only test what you need, when you need. I an unsure if there are certain tests that are tied to others tho (there might be a link between alk/calc/mag but i honestly dont know). The only item I was told that there likely will be a recommended "time to use" reagent, IE you can test as little as you want but you could run into accuracy issues as the reagent ages.
