Hydros Maven is Delayed

I found a Maven update from 9 months ago on their youtube channel.They may have made comments about it on the other videos since then but this one is specific to the Maven.

I am heavily invested into Hydros, like it, and would consider the Maven when and of it ever came out.
The whole "we are working to make the best Maven for you" comments are just PR spin. They made something that didnt work. If that weren't true they would be selling it to us by now. They didn't find this out until very late in the product development stages. Any one who has ever been part of product development knows how painful that is.
They have shifted back into redevelopment and testing. It could take another year or more for it to re-emerge. There is a legit chance it could never release. It would suit everyone better if they just tried to forget it existed until its re-released to the public.

I guess the whole Maven thing worked on me. The fact that it seemed like it was coming soon I think is what convinced me to go with Hydros for my new tank. Now I’m at a point where I don’t really feel like I need to test everything as often as I thought I would…so probably wouldn’t buy the Maven even if it comes out. So if it was all a marketing ploy…it worked! But to be fair, I’ve been super happy with my Hydros equipment.

Same. I ended up going with their alkalinity only testing as a bridge. But now I am pretty happy with just doing that and testing nitrate/phosphate every few weeks with a Hanna. Probably won't bother with the Maven unless its just out of this world or surprises me on upfront cost / cost to run.
What do you use for alk tests? Is that the IV probe or something? That's the one parameter that I really like to keep a close eye on. If my Alk where it should be, my Calcium and Magnesium are likely to be as well. And, I also like the Hanna checkers for nitrate/phosphates every week or if I'm worried about something.

Yes I use the X10/iV combo. It works pretty well, and while expensive up front is dirt cheap to run so I think it evens out. I know you can do it cheaper by DIYing / using individual pumps within the Hydros software.
Ive been doing it a year and have never had an issue with either mag or cal. I do quarterly ICPs and they have been green and stable.

$800 for two Kamoer pumps mounted on a $10 microcontroller and $20 in parts? Sorry, but that is 100% more expensive than anything else comparable. GHL Maxi is $400.
But the real joke: This is one more video where these two basically admit that they never had a working product when they announced in the first place.

It was a lot of market speak. Flags should go up when they say this hasn't been done before because it has. All in one, Mastertronic or two seperate with Trident ACM and NP.
Giving them the benefit of doubt they thought it was further along or ready than what it was. Conspiracy theory they announced it early to halt sales of their competitor.
Hypocrisy bonus points - selling reagents of said competitor and using DRM to prevent others doing it to them.
Yes and no. Parts of this have been done before, but not by them - hence why I think it caught them off guard. But the way they are trying to optimize the process is different, and that's where the naivety I think came into play. The maven is basically slamming the 2 tridents together and making them use the same hoses/pumps/test vials. And that's where the cross contamination issues I think are coming into play between the highly acidic nitrate/phos side and the pH indicators used on the alk/calc/mag side. The Kamoer SPA is a similar all in 1, but they basically just packed the ACM and NP into 1 device and kept the 2 independent fluid systems (2 dosers, 2 reaction chambers, 2 multiport mixers). The OG mastertronic was prob the closest to the maven in that one syringe was used for all reagents, but the area of cross contamination was limited to a much smaller area of the design. The new mastertronic reduced that area much further by using a multi head nozzle into the reaction chamber, so only the reaction chamber was of concern. Also keeping the flexibility of any test, any order, any schedule is a huge restriction on cross contamination. Forcing a user to run only certain tests in certain order would most certainly make things more predictable. But keeping to their original goal of any test, any order, any cadence really forces them to cover every permutation.
I think they had the individual tests down and working right for awhile, but really got snagged up on the mixing part. I think they thought that the mix and match process was going to be the last 5% of the design, but looks like it blew up into more like 50-80% based on how long this delay has run on.

Just to be clear. Cloud is only required for configuration changes. The system will run without the cloud once programmed. Also able to locally view and control outputs. Hopefully one day they implement a fully local interface but as it stands not with now.
That’s still a requirement that I’m not happy with. The thing costs over $1000, it should not need an internet connection whatsoever, there is no excuse for it when it costs so much imo
I also think it’s skeevy that the cloud requirement is all but hidden from all marketing materials
