Hydros Maven is Delayed

I never interpreted it as such a bad faith move by CV...
...I can get behind that, and I don't mind the delays.
Watch the video - they accidentally all but admit they had no product and that they are still in development.

They announce DRM'd consumables as a QC measure (lol), but inadvertently expose the hypocrisy in that they are A) selling 3rd party consumables to undercut their competitor bypassing the competitors OEM consumables channel and B) are said to be using that 3rd party consumables vendor to be their consumables partner.

You may be "on board" with that, I think many folks are not.

Leave me out of your crusade against CV

I understand you don’t like them.

But don’t drag me into it, thanks

There is no crusade.

I have an opinion, as do you.

This is a public conversation, and cordial at that.

You have not been "dragged into" anything. You, of your own free will, posted into a public conversation in a public forum.

Where was this said?
Hi Jeff. Good point. I will reword my post. ABC announced on Jun 7th that they would be moving part of their inventory to the CV brand.

Take from that what you will. Maybe it is all being farmed out with ABCs "formula" to a larger jobber and there is some financial arrangement. Maybe they will not have anything to do with the Hydros reagents. But one way or the other CV is actively involved in undercutting their competitor's sales by supply (now their own) branded ABC reagents while at the same time announcing their desire to DRM their own reagents.

Still, I have not seen anywhere from CV that states who is making their reagents. So this is just an assumption. Said "3rd party consumables vendor" does not make phosphate/nitrate reagents that I am aware of.

True or not, I would say a reasonable assumption. FWIW - There were already rumblings of such a relationship before either company officially announced the rebranding of pre-mixed Neptune consumables to CoralVue.

It is also a bit of a bummer that saltwater aquarium is also carrying the knock offs.

I suppose that is a matter of perspective. I personally don’t have a problem with 3rd party consumables. It is the irony of the situation that strikes me as unsavory.

What is the problem with selling a 3rd party consumable to deliver a cheaper product? That sounds like a good thing to me. So long as the 3rd party consumable is a decent quality of course. This is a genuine question. I haven't been keeping up with this much since it got delayed.

I agree, it is perspective. I would probably agree 100% if it was done in relationship with Neptune rather than reverse engineer or scalp old posts. It works in the car industry for sure so I'm sure it can. With regards to the irony - it is.

Hope your day is well.

I don't even care about that.

The chemistry being used in these testers is not novel. They are all based off of long established reactions with documented chemistry.

I just find it funny that CV distributes (and apparently now has a stake or partnership in) ABC, who's sole business is 3rd Party Neptune reagents -- while at the same time announcing that they plan to use DRM tactics to prevent 3rd parties from selling reagents for their Maven (if/when it ever releases).

I honestly don't understand what all the ruckus is about. It is delayed, so what.

I do understand the ruckus about the reagent DRM and reselling of knock offs for the competitor.

Whether or not intentional, it very much comes across as a bait and switch by coralvue due to the timing of the announcement. It was presented as an alternative to the trident and trident NP right as the NP was being released. It's hard to fathom that they were so incorrect about thinking they were that close to being able to offer a product for sale.

It is a fair question to raise, I agree. I should have probably stayed in my lane.

It's the deceit that went along with it. At this point it is pretty clear that they were never serious about the potential Q4 2024 release and just wanted people to not buy the Trident.

I'd rather have a product that works than a rushed one. However, what about getting a GHL Ion Director and KH Director? Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the Maven test by using Reagents vs Probe? I think the probe is more accurate, no?

It will use reagents but the iV does use a pH probe for testing alkalinity. I already have the iV and an X10 use to test alkalinity and it also does a pH and salinity test every 2 hours isolated from the tank. It does an alkalinity test every 6 hours.
