Hydros Maven is Delayed

Hanna Phosphate test takes 3 minutes to count down and give a number. Hanna's Nitrate takes 7 to give a number.

2 mins mixing + 3 minute countdown . I hate saying this; but I'm often too lazy to even run my Hanna phosphate tests, and probably only run it once every 2-3 months.

True, 2 minutes of shake and bake. I'm estimating the total time of 10, 13 minutes or so. Depends on if we prestage with open packets, etc.

Also worth noting that the Trident ACM has a 6 month reagent kit which has a $0.17 per test cost using the default schedule. The NP does not. Not sure why, I've asked a few times, but we are stuck at 2 month kits which equates to a $1.00 per test. A bit high in my opinion.

Again, not knocking it because I use it but honesty in reefing is important.

Get a mixer and use a timer and it frees you up to multitask. Mixers are cheap.

Yeah I use Hanna nightly. But when I’m on travel I’d really like a reading.

It took me a week or two but my X10 and iV (non-pro) have been dead on for months. I was spot testing it for the past two months with my Hannah and Salifert kits and they have all been within +/-0.5 dKh which is more than acceptable for my tank.

The longer my tank is setup the more I realized that I don't need to test any of these things every 4 minutes.

Hanna eggs, especially the ones for Alk, Phos and Hi-Nitrates are perfectly fine and sufficient.

Will not be buying one.

Same. Been running for over a year without incident. I keep expecting it to fail but I verify results monthly with other test kits and its always within 0.1-0.2 dKH. Cheap reagent. Minimal fuss. Will be pre-emptively changing out the heads and tubing in the next few months just to be proactive.

Mag/Cal I just monitor with quarterly ICP tests. That plus weekly nitrate/phosphate Hanna Checker tests...I get everything I need with probably 10-15 minutes a week of testing effort.

The Maven still intrigues me but at its likely price point and running cost im not sure its worth it. Plus I saw it in person yesterday in Orlando...its huge...2-3 times the size of their other devices. Its almost going to need its own cabinet by the time you figure in reagent storage.

I agree. I have been waiting 2 years and the Maven was the only reason I bought any Hydros equipment.

For now I am keeping my weekly testing with my Hanna testers and adding it to the static inputs on the Hydros. I would probably still do the weekly test anyway even with the Maven. I do have the alkalinity testing automated using the iV and I still do a manual alkalinity test weekly with the Hanna. The Hanna test are the grey bars in the second screenshot. Then orange bars are the iV test. I did have to add new reagent between the gray bars. It was getting low on the first gray bar. The other test in that screenshot have not been done in a long time but when the were done they were all different from each other but were usually close.

I ended up buying an original Alkatronic on sale at BRS last month. Since Hydros can interface to it, that will cover my alk testing for now. Everything else is static inputs and Hanna checkers.

If you are doing alkalinity test multiple times a day you may want to keep using the Alkatronic since the reagent for it may be a lot cheaper than what is going to be used in the Maven. The Maven may be more like the Hanna checker as far as reagent is concerned. I do my alkalinity testing on the iV 4 times a day.
