They are finicky when moved or something is making them uncomfortable. I moved mine to the other side of the tank and he sulked for a week. They are pretty forgiving corals, give it time. The pic is after a week. He looked like yours when I moved him. That's what it looks like to me but it doesn't seem to be adjusting to my tank as well as the other kenya trees I have in the tank.
It looked at little more opened up when I bought it. The tank it is in is a soft coral and mushroom tank and I know it takes a bit for them to really open up when moved but maybe the location I have it at is not as favorable for it?Did the coral look like that when you bought it? Was it shipped?
Currently, I am actually a softy killer. They hate me. Except for gsp... my past experience was better. Set em and forget em. They will take time to acclimate if the water chemistry is different. It looked at little more opened up when I bought it.
