I made a much dreaded impulse purchase the other day when I saw this tang. Very reputable lfs. They said it was a spotted kole tang. But, the coloration on this is much different than any pictures I've seen online. Any suggestions what type this is or why it's coloration is so different than the ones online?

Best I could do with photos for now. It's very active.

Looks like a bristletooth, I see a yellow eye. Maybe fish is a bit freaked and stressed out, could be causing some paleness? Have you seen fish eating? What are you feeding?

From your description, you did not QT, correct? Just trying to get some info, did the LFS say how long they had the tang?

Lfs qd'd for 4 weeks. It does have a yellow eye. Only have him 1 day and he is grazing well and he ate some mysis today. It was same color at lfs and had been in that tank for 4 weeks. Crazy pink color with bright yellow dots. Interesting pink/orange fins.

Looks like C. truncatus coloration but tail isn't quite right for that species. That's still what I'm going with. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Had an Indian bristletooth once that started to get pale for almost 7 months then colors came back but fish died shortly after colors came back. Not sure what it was that caused issues to the fish.

Albinism would exhipit pink eyes, so it is not that.

It is a regular yellow eye kole tang exhibiting stress coloring. It could be because it is new, it is facing aggression, dealing with parasites, or temperature or salinity changes.

Here's a better picture. It is eating like a champ and very active. No sign of ick. Not gasping. Ugh I hope it's not a disease.

Looks more like a variant of kole tang. Fins eyes and shape.

I might add that it looks pretty healthy in that last photo

I think albino kole tang. Not all forms of albinism present with red/pink eyes.

It's not albinism then, it would be leucism instead.

In either case of albinism and leucism would not have the yellow on the eyes nor the colored fins.
