So I have a brand new 40 gallon C VUE tank and no fish. I have my searching for inspiration for fish and I am drawing blanks. I currently have a 13.5 gallon tank with clownfish, wheeler goby and lawnmower blenny. The C Vue is longer tank almost like a breader and I am trying to house some unique fish in it. Does anyone have any suggestions or some really cool different fish to house.

I do!

Here are some unqiue choices for different types of fish:
  1. Blenny (if you haven't seen these fish in person, don't dismiss them! These guys are even more pretty in person):
    1. Tailspot
    2. Harptail/Forktail
    3. Bicolor
    4. Barnacle (getting like 8 of these would be cool)
  2. Goby
    1. Pinkbar
    2. Court Jester (Rainfords goby)
    3. Tiger Wardii *
    4. Two Spot
    5. Randalls (they have a huge and pretty dorsal fin)
    6. Dracula
    7. Neon (I know everyone has these but they are great)
  3. Basslet
    1. Royal Gramma (basic I know, but people always point out this fish when they see my tank)
    2. Assesors (yellow is my fav)
    3. Swissguard (expensive)
    4. Lantern Bass (super mean)
  4. Dottyback (all can be mean)
    1. Orchid (least mean)
    2. Neon
    3. Springeri/Black Neon
    4. Any of the purple/yellow dottybacks (.....I don't recommend these)
  5. Hawkfish
    1. Geometric (not actually a hawkfish but looks like one) (also the only one that won't eat your shrimps)
    2. Flame
    3. Longnose
  6. Jawfish
    1. Dusky*
    2. Pearly
    3. Bluespot*
  7. Miscellaneous
    1. Captive-bred Dragonets (they eat mysis so they can survive in a 40 gallon and are tiny)
    2. Flame Angel *
    3. Red stop cardinal
I purposefully didn't list any wrasse because I always get crapped on for the wrasses I recommend. PM me you if you want some choices :)
* = fish will eventually outgrow the 40 gallon

Hi. I have an Aquatop Recife 40 gallon so I came across when I was looking for some ideas for mine. Right now I have 2 small percula clownfish, a royal gramma, a green chromis and a bicolor blenny. I added them in that order and everything is doing fine. I know that a lot of people would say that the aquarium is stocked to capacity already but I do plan to add another fish or two. I'm thinking of adding a hawkfish, dwarf/pygmy angelfish, or filefish.
