I am currently trying to fix my parents 90 gallon aquarium and I am not even really sure where to start. I guess we can start with the crazy green hair algae they have growing, which I am positive was growing because they hadn't replaced the light bulbs in quite a while. I was struggling trying to find the replace bulbs so I talked them into getting new lights. I figured leds would be best for them so they won't have to worrying about replacing anything for 13 or so years. They purchased an Orbit Marine IC PRO LED with LOOP and the two fixtures, first question I have is will this setup work for what they are trying to have. Currently they have two fish, a clown and a royal gamma and four different corals which I am not exactly sure what they are. I will attach pictures but I believe three of the corals are lps and I am not sure on the fourth one. I know they want to get more fish and corals but making them wait until I get everything running smoothly again. Have some other issues but we can start there. Thank you for the help!

Hello,

First off welcome to R2R where you will have lots of lovely people and info.

In regards to your post yes they will work and really well but there will be some exceptions. They will grow any softies and lps easily. Secondly current usa is great at warranty or service as well. Third, I probably would not put these any larger than a 90. The lights won’t reach the bottom of the tank. I know these lights very well and can answer any questions you could have.

In terms of the tank, you could try vibrance to get rid of the algae and a uv sterilizer. You may have to pull some of the rocks and scrape them off or if nothing is on them corals see if the lfs will swap you for live rock. I would make sure parameters are good and he tank is stable first.

Then work on the other stuff the algae could be annoying but still away to get rid of it. Some clean up crew eat that, and other critters.

I've been trying to figure out how to setup the lights so they automatically come on but I must be doing something wrong because they aren't turning on at the time I've set, nor do they turn off? I'm also getting worried as the corals don't seem to be doing as well as they were with the old lights. I'm also not sure what color intensity I should be using. I know they haven't been doing water changes so I'm making water and starting to do one now, do you suggest I do a few water changes over the next few days??
Thanks again for the help!

Hello,

On the current lights with the ramp timer and or the ic loop timer, you must set the clock first. Channel one has its own timer and channel two does. You have to set it with the remote. I’m at work atm so can’t tske a pic of the remote but if you do I can tell which buttons to press. The presets will also automatically set the timer if your using those. Anytime you touch the color buttons it will take it off of the timer mode FYI. The resume and default button are definitely your best friends. If you make a mistake press those and it will resume back to old settings. You must press enter each time for each function to save wake function.

These lights on full power will burn corals, they may be the problem. Another way to see where the lights are at currently is to hit the color buttons and it will show the percentage. The color of the buttons represent which light color it changes.

Edit so to set the clock push the set clock button then hours then minutes then enter. Then to set the timers press on time (enter time then enter then )press off timer and your desired off time then enter). This will set them until you change it. Then the color buttons you can decrease or increase etc. blues should be about 100% whites maybe 51% (but I’m going off mine and my whites are at 30%. Hope this helps and it does have presets can’t remember off the top of my head because my lights use the other remote. But i can look when home and explain it.

Hey Sarah thank you very much for all the help. I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I went to visit some friends who are basically like my grandparents for a few days and since I have been back home I haven't been feeling to good so I haven't been able to work on their aquarium at all. I didn't realize touching the color buttons turned off the timer mode so that is what I was doing wrong with the timer. I also figured out what I was doing wrong with trying to program the different color intensities. I am curious what level each light should be at for the different phases, especially when it comes to the green and red lights? Right now I have blues set at the default settings, 10% for moonlight, 70% for sunrise/sunset and 100% for daylight. I have changed the whites to be 45% for daylight instead of the default 100%, should I leave the 5% during sunrise/sunset? What are your suggestions for the red and green lights? The other thing I am wondering is if they are okay resting on the tank or if they should buy the mounting brackets for them. On a side note what is your opinion on using egg crate cover vs glass, they have glass right now.

I am still struggling with the green hair algae, made some good progress with it after doing four water changes each at least 25 gallons, but while I was gone and since I didn't have the lights programmed correctly my Dad decided it would be a good idea to leave the white lights on all day and they were still at 90% intensity. That would be a big factor in how quickly it has grown back correct? I have tried getting it through my Dad's head that its not good to have the lights on all day especially the white lights but he feels that the corals need it. Now that I have the lights programmed correctly hopefully he won't touch it.

Now to the bigger problem and the state of their aquarium right now I am looking for suggestions. They currently aren't using a protein skimmer, they have one but it is to big to fit in the sump tank they have now. They are planning on getting a bigger sump tank but the problem is getting it underneath the aquarium stand. The only thing I can think to do is take out as much as I can in the aquarium so I can move it and then slide in the new sump tank in. I will attached some pictures to show you what I am working with.
