Vodka dosing + Dr Tim's WasteAway nitrifying bacteria + feed once a day in the amount fish eat EVERY MORSEL within 3mins or less+ have hungry GHA eating tangs + an oversized skimmer + weekly WCs + using no more than 3o% white LED lighting for only 4hrs while blue actinic run for 8hrs

Am I close?

Thanks for making me laugh. Though I guess he did say it was a secret ...... Always amuses me when the novice reefer announces that he or she has 'discovered' that which has apparently eluded the rest of us for decades.

GHA appears to be started by rock with a high trapped phosphate content in my experience. Once it starts it traps detritus and forms it’s own nutrient beds.

If you removed the rocks then a few good freshwater baths may have helped. Increasing bacterial breakdown of detritus could have helped if you didn’t. I’ve seen GHA look like that before. I had an infestation and just kept outcompeting it until it suddenly over a matter of days lost the battle and did that. You just have to push the cycle in reverse so that the phosphate is leeching out of the rocks and into the water.
