I want to try a clam

My tank is about 9 months old and I wanted to try a Deresa Clam, as I don't have the par for a Maxima.
I used a par meter when I set up the tank and nothing has changed:

My parameters are solid and stable
No3 = 5.0
Po4 = .02 -.03
Alk = 9.0 - 9.1
Cal = 410
Mag = 1340
These are my numbers and I test twice a week to keep everything stable as I dose AFR

I say go for it. I put my clams in a brand new tank day one and they’re loving life. The tank was 75% brand new dry rock and 25% live.

I have a maxima in about 150-200 par. I have both deresa and maxima i got them both when they were tiny babies and raised them up 3+ years. Parameters seem fine, they are filter feeders so nutrients are good. I know maximas are found in an area with dkh around 7.5.

Lovely tank, especially the Acans garden. A Derasa on the sandbed should do well. BRS has some good deals on Derasa.

People claimed they were hard, I even have a local LFS person that struggles, but I've had very good success with my captive bred ORA derasa that I got through queen city corals.

So I live about 3 hours from this place but never ordered anything from them.

I couldn't find a better deal anywhere, and mine has been through 2 sets of dinos and a tank transfer.

www.coralempireaquaculture.com has a better deal on clams. Ben is awesome. He is a hobbyist trying to fund his addiction. I have 2 more clams coming from him tomorrow along with some sticks and CUC.

250ish par is more than enough for a Maxima. Give it a shot. I have 4 in my tank now. Will have 6 tomorrow. But some of mine are under 400+ par. While others are in the 200s.

I have a nice spot on the rock in front of my acan garden that is 234 par, I wonder if that would work?

The best clams are aquacultured ones grown under led. Get one that is over 3 inches and aquacultured.

Derasa are easier too and not as light demanding but definitely appreciate more light. They don't really attach to rock like Maxima do so if they are going to be on rockwork they need a little stand or something to hold them

Look at Corals.com and Clammania. BRS has some decent size Derasa. Pacific East Aquaculture has some stunning Tridacna. If cost were not an issue I would pick up one of their Squamosa.
