Hello,

I got a new reef tank and when it got here I measured and I only have 9 1/2 inches in the stand.

I can use a canister filter under there, but what can I do for the skimmer, I don't want it to hang on the back of the tank.

Suggestions?

Canister is a no no in reef tank. Get a proper stand or DIY one so u can fit a sump in there with all the equipment

Get a taller stand. You’re not going to like the viewing height of that kind of tank anyway. Trust us. Get what you’re happy with now while you can pick the tank up, even if it means waiting longer then you want to fill it.
