Ice Packs save the day

Okay, this is more of a side post, not fish or reef related, but those ice packs that come with our live fish or fish food or pods saved the day! Actually, more than once. Once when our freezer quit and I used the styrofoam boxes and ice from Live Aquaria. And again on monday when the refrigerator died.

Over the weekend, while cleaning part of the garage, I tossed a grocery sack full of those packs in the garbage as I already had some in the freezer. Well, Monday night I went and dug in the garbage to retrieve them (they were not compromised but washed them anyway)
By using my containers and those packs, I have kept the important stuff cold and having so many means replacing is easy. and I also used them in the refrigerator where I put not so important items like pickels and hot sauces and veggies close and used the packs to keep them cool. Surprisingly they kept the temp of the fridge cool.

So hang onto some or a lot of those packs. In an emergency, they save the day and I will not be tossing these out lol's. I'll find a container and place to store them! And happy to say the new fridge comes today!!

I have never seen such a thing and actually had to google it! It gets to 30C here only about once or twice a year.

Another hack if you have room, is to keep a few frozen water bottles in the fridge. Work great in a pinch.

trust me, I was freezing water bottles, oj bottles, and tupperware type containers to keep the fridge cold for the produce and pickles lol's. It actually kept things reasonably cool. The ice packs went to the perishable type foods
