Thank you for having a good attitude and seeing a bright side in a bad situation. I opened all three sizes of scrubbers at MACNA and thought the styrofoam packaging was sufficient in terms of protecting the unit itself and the lights. Out of curiosity, was the retail box packed into a larger outside box with more packing material inside or did you just receive the scrubber box without another brown box on the outside? This would be good for us to know going forward.
Here is what I received. See photo of styrofoam bottom. This was the outer and only box.

Great, thank you! So it doesn't appear there was an outer box (not sure there needs to be, but again, good to know for future reference). Thank you very much for sharing. I will share this with our team today so everyone's in the know.

Hey bud,

I just shared this thread with our team and they said you don't have to go through AquaCave. Just email us at [email protected] and we'll take care of you. That way we can help expedite a resolution to some degree. Hope that helps!

Thought I'd give an update here, I put in a new roughed up screen and can run the pump 100% and it's not only quiet but the roughed up plastic catches the water way better than the smooth screen.

Okay about a week into the roughed up screen, all the algae I put on came off even though I thought I put it on pretty good. Is this normal growth for a new scrubber?

Yes, brown growth is average for new scrubbers. It will take a few weeks for the scrubber to break in and for algae to start to take hold. It all has to do with the type of tank you have and if you have high nutrients or if the nutrients are being consumed by something else first. Are you running both lights? What is your photoperiod?

Thanks Carlos, yes both lights are on for 16 hours a day. Nutrients are pretty high since I took my fuge offline I've been getting algae in the tank. I used to have thick mats of turf algae on the fuge walls and a big chunk of chaeto that I trimmed every other week. I guess my fuge was working well but I've always been curious about scrubbers let's see how this goes.

I thought it was weird the brown film is starting at the bottom, I would have thought from the top down

Yes, if you still have the fuge, then remember that it is outcompeting the ATS. It will take a little bit for the ATS to get going and start to take over your current filtration.

Fuge is gone, I think I'm just in the startup phase

What's the overall noise level like?
it's pretty quite, it only gets noisy if some algae grows over one of the holes and it shoots straight down.

overall not growing very well, I'm 4 weeks in i had to remove the screen to clean out a clogged hole, when the hole clogged it started dripping water down the side of the unit which wasn't fun. I'm going to try and slip an oring around the pipe to stop that going forward (@Carlos@CoralVue , @Jeff@CoralVue product improvement idea)

anyway 4 weeks in and the growth really hasn't changed much

What makes it noisy?

I hang a drawstring felt filter sock around the included thumbscrew coupler over the output of my Turbo’s ATS and with proper flow adjustment, it runs nice and quietly.
