I haven't been able to get a solid ID on this guy but I really like its uniqueness and would like to continue to see it thrive.

Sorry for blues pictures -- coral is more open and happy -- all I have currently. It is generally brown, and looks like a common base with multiple openings - I initially thought sponge, but don't believe that to be correct now.

I believe these were from Florida - and web search for Caribean Sea Mat - palythoa cariboraeorum - returns pictures quite similar to what I am observing. Its the mat aspect versus individual polyps that is so unique in my (albeit limited) experience - also why I described it as sponge-like - but with small tentacles around openings. Also, there is not an easily discernible bottom to the openings.

Thanks very much for your input @Opus

Back in the day when Florida was open, you could buy "fancy" or "ultra" live rock from there and it would have sea mat growing on it along with ricordia and some lps type corals. Only down side was Florida rock was dense and heavy.

I should clarify - sourced through LFS who placed order - ricordia (florida). Cool either way...

Thanks you two for pointing me in the right direction! Also, each of 2 ricordia rocks had other LPS on them as well - fun purchases for sure!
