Have had foxface for almost a month now, eats great and active but noticed this stringy white stuff near the bases of his pectoral fins yesterday, seemed to be gone this morning but reappeared this afternoon. I did a bunch of work on the tank two days ago so this could’ve stressed him out pretty good. Was part of a batch of live fish ordered online a month ago and currently starting treatment with praziquel for powder blue tang in my QT for possible internal parasites(haven’t seen white stringy poop but seems to be super skinny and not eating the best). Remaining fish all seem fine. Best pics I could get, thanks in advance.

These fish spook easily and often get injured. Appears to be skin tags from injury but to fully confirm, these pics are too dark to tell. Please repost using Bright white light intensity, No blue

Sorry - I can't see much in the photos, they are pretty dark and fairly blue. A video under white light might be better.....

Looks like a heavy slime coat which they do possess and can be separation. The fact that it is gone as is back may support that. Assure PH is 7.9- 8.3 and Nitrate is not highly elevated

Thanks for the input. Parameters are all in check…PH 8.1, nitrate 5-10 and phos .10. Slime coat would make sense, he was diving in and out of the rocks when I was doing work on the tank and catching blue tang…he did get a little scratch on his side that already seems to be nearly healed up so maybe it’s slime coat increased due to that?

That looks like a minor injury. Overall, the fish is pretty thin so you’ll want to try and reverse that with multiple feedings daily of high protein / high fat foods like mysids, pellets and gel diets. Avoid frozen brine shrimp.
