I have a bunch of these growing on one rock, can someone ID and recommend best way of removal. I'm Concerned because they are growing into a zooanthid colony quickly.

Thank you

can you get a pic under white light? color will count. Many of the small clove polyps can be bad news. It they are a yucky ones you may need to look into fragging the zoas off the rock.

They are closed up at the moment. I fired up the daylight and I will post pic once they open up. Thx

They look like clove polyps. They're a cool coral. Can grow kinda fast in a system with free nutrients. Not really a pest in my opinion.

it looks to me like common clove polyps. there should be a mat on a common clove polyp, those you just pull up the mat.. the truly invasive ones Ive seen grow out of the rock or on it and may disappear into the rock when you touch or disturb them(i had those).

I was typing when you said,
I blink an eye and another 10 of these pop up. If they are cloves, what's the best way to remove them?
eww. well, toss the rock. sorry. google blue clove polyp or japanese clove polyp.
lets see if we can get more eyes on this

#reefsquad Invasive?

I googled both blue and Japanese and it looks like that's what they are. Sucks because I've had this rock for 8 years or so and I have colonies of zooanthids on it.

Is tossing the rock or killing it my only option?

If it's a 1000% positive Id
I'd start with kalk paste or appraisal x then escalate from there. Glue putty etc. it actually could be easy.

Don't drop the nuke first.

I made a DIY majano wand that works well on polyps/majano's and
aiptasia. Could work on these, don't see why it wouldn't.
