ID sump things

These white dots were there when I bought the tank, it was dry for about 3 days before I bought it. Now it seems they are in my protein skimmer which I just installed yesterday. Anyone know what they are, if they are alive, and what I should do about it? Are they some sort of pod that are/were growing in the bio balls?

Are they hard or soft? Do they come off the glass real easy? They look kind of like Spirorbid worms IMO.
