is it possible for someone to charge your card without having possesion of your card? not online. seems like i've been getting charged in most ridiculous stores, out of state. like. pathmark? i'm a stop n shop guy. i caught it few weeks late, and already up like 400+ at gas stations, and restaurants... what the heck?

Sounds like id theft. Time to change the card, you can (probably successfully) contest the charges, but the bank doesn't really care.

ugh... ...-_-; what a pain... now i gotta go through all the previous statements.

I would do it quick, some cards cover all charges and some will only make you pay the first $50 of un-authorized charges....Either way I would get on the ball and stop it now.I would also have them issue a new card as well...

kigs, I just went through the same thing about a month ago! Contact the FTC at 1-877-438-4338 and one of the three major credit beareaus (equifax was the one I contacted at 1-800-525-6285)! DO it quickly as this is something you need to notify them about so they will not allow the theif to open any more accounts in your name. Let us know how things go. I can get more info to you if you need as I just went through this myself like I said.

thanks guys. ecotoxlady, pm sent. i'll let you guys know how it ends with the bank. i'm just worried about future frauds. i read about identify thefts so many times and ppl say how it took them so much cash and years to be completely free of it... let's hope nothing like that happens

I responded to your PM kigs and really hope it helps! Let us know how things unfold as you speak with these banks and credit beareua's. They should be able to put a warning on your credit report so if this thief tries to apply for more credit cards, the bank will contact you directly. Make sure you give the credit agency a phone number like a cell phone number where you can be easily reached. I really hope you can get this straightened out without any damage to your credit report!

I read your PM ecotoxlady, and it was very helpful. I'm going to try to get this straightened out and keep you guys updated. Thanks again!

Sorry about what's happened. I had my wallet stolen at work and had to go through some of this also.

In addition to what was mentioned above, you might see if you can enroll in one of those services that monitor your credit report monthly and call you immediately for any new activity--i.e. someone trying to open a new account. One of my credit card companies does this monthly--of course for a fee.
HTH.

The thing that absolutely amazes me is that some one can steal your credit and the government is so lax on this! Most identity theft is a misdemeanor crime. I want tough laws for this! A guy like me works hard for my cash...Literally! I am a laborer! For someone to steal my credit is the ultimate sin to violating my children! I would just want to know who it is and where they are if all they get is a slap on the wrist and I get to pay for the trouble!
Sometimes being a vigalante has it's place! A thief is a theif and they don't care, but someone should help the victim! Desroying someones credit and all that they have worked for is an absolute evil crime!!!

Sorry, I had to rant about this! We should be better protected by our creditors.
