To be honest, I think New Orleans (where I'm from) is gonna be high on my list if this all comes to fruition.

But the boss (my wife) is insisting we give all other options due consideration. She's one crawfish hating lady! :D

You know MACNA isn't hosted there every year, right? [emoji16]

Someone above had a decent suggestion of Mobile, AL (but he suggested a 'burb called Spanish Fort) and I'd have to say I agree. I'm not sure about the reefing community down there but it's fairly strong in the states 3 other "big" cities. In Mobile, you're only 2 hours from NO and it's in a pretty progressive area of the state.

I'm in Birmingham and absolutely love it. Bham just got voted the #1 up and coming food city, schools in the burbs are some of the best in the region. It's extremely affordable as long as you're not trying to live in homewood or mountain brook. 3 LFSs, Tons of concerts and activities. Only thing missing is top-tier sports but that's slowly coming along with UABs return to football and minor league soccer team getting big sponsorships. Also with a metropolitan population of ~1.1M it's much bigger than it gets credit for.

Tbh I'm mostly posting because I'm curious to see what else gets suggested.

I used to live in west mobile. Absolutely loved it. Was also my kids favorite place. Good reefing community there too.

Hey Idoc I'm from Ohio and except 2 months it's not that bad here

Ohio definitely has the advantage of having even amounts of all four seasons! But, I just can't handle that cold any longer...I guess its the old age setting in, lol. I was from Northern Ohio (near Massillon and Canton areas) and it was a little chillier than in Southern Ohio. I may not live there any longer, but I still claim to be a life-long Buckeye! Go Bucks!

@Humblefish what ever you do don't go to New Mexico, cost of living is cheap but that's about it. If I could to my wife into it I would already be back in Louisiana probably the Houma or Thibodaux area love it down that way other than the fact your gonna get fat.

Northern New Mexico is pretty beautiful, though... plus, good skiing!!!

Other than reef keeping and making your wife work, what hobbies do you guys enjoy? I would think that would be a determining factor for location. I wouldn't move to Colorado if you guys love the beach or recommend Florida if snowmobiles are your thing. ;)

I'm a web designer by trade, and can do other geeky tech stuff. :D Mostly hardware, but I'm pretty good with databases as well.

Other than that, I've become very one dimensional (fish diseases) at this stage in my life. I do enjoy flying over to Europe once or twice a year to see the beautiful architecture. I can just walk for hours & hours all over London or Paris, eat street food, and be completely happy. Maybe visit a few museums while we're there.

I also love NFL football (can watch all day Sunday) and wrestling (Monday Night Raw). Yup, I'm one weird dude. :p

In about a week, my wife & I will be visiting the Clarksville - Nashville area.

Any recommendations for good towns maybe halfway in-between the two? The problem is I will be making weekly runs to the airport, and Clarksville seems a little far away. TIA

Ah! We have beautiful Lake Tahoe and many smaller lakes within a two hour drive. We also have 24 hour liquor sales, casinos and no state tax. Going east, we have the Black Rock dessert. Can't forget the world famous Mustang Ranch:eek:!
Yeah, I used to live in Gardnerville, which isn't that far from Reno. I loved Nevada!

We made the move from the east cost a year and a half ago. smartest thing I've done in the last 27 years. I'd say 28 but I married my wife 28 years ago.. housing is affordable.. so are the utilities.. 20 minutes to the airport.

Is there a paper mill smell anywhere in Knoxville? My wife has a "thing" about that. We used to live across the river from one.

I'm more of a beach person myself, but my family has lived in Colorado (in and around Boulder) for the past 11-ish years, and it's a pretty nice place to be! The mountains are amazing for outdoor activities and the scenery is really beautiful!

I go to school up in Fort Collins now, and the town up there is cute and there are good surrounding areas for hiking/enjoying nature.
