In a bind

I just bought a stand that was custom built. It was originally bought for a 7 foot tank but they broke the tank on arrival so they went with a 6 foot tank. I may need to notch out the area in red and I was wondering if there is a way to do it and reinforce the stand so it does not fail? Or is there a way to cover the holes in the bottom of the tank where the overflows used to be without a bulkhead? If I can do that, that would be much better as I would not have to alter the stand.

To me (I'm not an engineer or anything) but I don't think it would be that big of an issue to notch a bit of that piece out. In my thoughts it isn't directly transferring weight down to the floor like the upright pieces are. I would wait for more people to chime in besides me though. :)

I'd say that you could cut that section out and tack in a piece of steel at a 45 degree angle to maintain the rigidity.

Cut and brace, make it so the load has again support.

I would have to notch out some of the upright support. If I could seal the tank from the inside it would be much better. I will also have to notch out the 2x6 that is running along the back as well. Like maybe half of it.
