InkBird temp probes best location?

I’ve used inkibird for a few years now in my 65 gal aio and happy with it.. but I just set up a big tank with a sump and I’m wondering where I need the temp probes.

my tank is a 180 gallon and I am using 2 titanium heaters in the skimmer section of my sump. Currently the probes are in the same area and keep it around 77.5-78 degrees. However the display reads 76 or so and I’m wondering if I need to move the temp probes into the display?
Also, I seem to recall InkBird saying the temp probes should be placed near each other. Thoughts?

the temp probes should be placed before the heaters, right now the temp probes being in the same chamber as the heaters makes them only read the warmest water. It is best to put them in the chamber where the water first comes into the sump as that will read what the actual display is. and this will read the heater water once it fully goes though the entire system

Upstream from the heaters within the sump. First compartment is best as you’re getting the temp as it comes back from the display. That said the difference should be nominal

I have a Red Sea Reefer 625 XXL. My Inkbird temp probes are in the skimmer section and return pump sections of my sump, respectively. Seems to work well.

I agree with the above suggestions of upstream of the heater and just want to add that you are right the probes should stay together. The point of two probes is if one fails or gets pulled out of the water (I’ve had this happen) it will see a difference in the probe temps and set an alarm.
You dont want it to turn off and alarm because the probes are different temps because of their location.

I want at least one temperature probe in the display tank. In this case you'll get a temperature warning alert in case the return pump fails (temperature in DT will drop).

I had never even considered using the two probes in that way. That’s a creative idea as long as your display and sump are close enough to the same temp not to get nuisance errors.

I have both temp probes in the display on either side of the weir intake on my 525XL... never thought of the sump as a location as the display is where I want to make sure the temp is correct and stable.

That’s what I ended up doing also
