Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows why IM doesn't use Bio media such as MarinePure? Also would be a good idea to add bio media to a nano tank or is it not necessary for some reason?

Thanks T

I like to use biomedia if there is going to be no sand or very little (particularly non porous) rock. As for why IM doesn't include it I can't say other than probably just to save money. Sand is essentially biomedia.

I have the same tank. Use SeaChem Matrix in a medium Seachem zip media bag in the 2nd chamber. Bag is in a intank media basket . First chamber has IM filter sock in it.
Tank is bare bottom.

live rock is bio media. No tank needs bio media if it has rock which is basically any reef tank except maybe a frag tank.

If you plan on a sponge Bob house instead of rock then sure.. use media. :p

I don’t use media in any of my reef tanks. As far as I am concerned, they came up with the idea to drain peoples wallets like bottled betta fish water. Like there wasn’t reef tanks before matrix blocks? As soon as people started using live rock… they found they could keep corals and more difficult fish.
