Yeah... my dad was thinking about building his 75 gallon sump below his 150 to entirely slide out but $200 for a pair of them seemed a bit high. Especially considering he would need two sets
They did have ones powder coated. The price and height are what drove me away, particularly the price.

Including my custom aluminum tray which could have been built out of a less expensive material I am at about $240. The slides I needed were $400 for a pair.

That would still be significantly cheaper then having a stand built. I was quoted $3,000 for my stand to be made out of walnut and stained

That’s why I am not concerned with it. I’m getting a very custom stand exactly how I want it for a fraction of what I’d pay some one to build it. I hope to have $500 said and done in the stand. I got the eucalyptus live edge wood for the top for just $50!

If you’re building it, why not just make it an extra 1-2 inches higher and add the wheels?

In hind site I could have but it is already 37” with the top which is really as tall as I’d like to go but yea another 1.5-2” would’ve saved me a lot of money.

It’s been a while since my last post. The stand is now fully painted and the top is built and sanded. Now I need to let the paint cure, assemble everything, oil the top and drill 5 holes for pipe work. Here’s a few pictures.

Beautiful stand! Make sure to throw a few extra layers of finish/seal on the live edge top. can’t let water ruin that beautiful slab ;)

Go with a few layers of odies oil on your live edge. Be sure to get every part of the wood. top, bottom, sides. You don't want moisture getting the wood and causing it to move. But Odies is really amazing stuff with great water beading properties. I would also wax any exposing wood bi weekly to keep the wood protected. Looks great so far!

Thanks everyone! I am using Watco Tung oil to coat the live edge. All 4 edges are getting 4 coats.

Do you have a recommendation for wax?

It’s finally all coming together. Next stop is plumbing! I ended up going with a fiji cube 81g so my title is a little off at this point...

Awesome setup. And perfect timing. I'm setting up an ext 100 and have been thinking about a roll-out sump. How smooth does your platform move?
Nice! The IM tanks are awesome, especially the EXT series. The tray rolls out very smooth, I have way more bearings than I need to make sure it was smooth. Pulling out the center brace underneath is a little harder, it slides on two starboard sleds which don’t have the best friction coefficient but it gets the job done!

To be honest it was my first time working with live edge but my neighbor has experience although not with eucalyptus. He has a trailer style mill, a home made 2x6 framed “sled” that we placed a router and large bit on to shave it down flat. We also used his stationary small planer for the smaller piece. Then we glued it and did ALOT of sanding to bring it to a final grit of 340. Then the 4 coats of Watco Tung oil “sanding” it with the finest steel wool in between coats. This is the heaviest wood I’ve ever lifted, I would venture to say it’s heavier than the same sized slab of granite.
