Innovative Marine warped weir

I’ve got a second hand IM EXT100 (so obviously there’s no warranty), and I noticed a while back that the weir teeth were a bit bowed. I finally looked close last weekend and noticed the bow extends down 3-4” and out about 3/4”. I emailed IM asking if there’s a fix for this, and also informed them that I’m not the original owner and didn’t expect anything but advice. They’ve completely ignored me this far.

Has anyone else experienced this and have a resolution that doesn’t involve the tank being emptied?

Any harm in just letting it be?

They have an acrylic false back wall that apparently separates from the glass if you don’t put some silicone where the weir is to prevent water getting behind the acrylic. They may have resolved that issue by now

I can speak to the acrylic issue. I had the 100 EXT that bowed and separated. IM replaced the tank. The second tank also bowed and IM replaced it a second time. That second replacement I was told had an abs back rather than acrylic. I can confirm the material was different than the first two tanks.
However, rather than swap my tank for a second time I opted to upgrade to the 150 EXT. it was delivered last week and I haven’t set it up just yet. I got the full system with the 100 and will re-use the plumbing and sump for the 150.

Long story short, they were easy to work with for the warranty claims and replaced the tank at no cost to me twice. That’s pretty stand up. I would recommend them as a solid option

Nope. No contact with the drain pipes.

I've also heard great things about them and were at the top of my list when it's time to upgrade, but completely ignoring me when I was simply asking for advice left a bad taste. I'm not sure I'm cool with a company that only cares about their product if it's still under warranty.

I completely get that.

I was a redsea guy until I learned about all the issues, and got out before it got bad. I am happy with my Waterbox now, and I've only had to contact them once but the experience was good.

Yea that was an issue awhile ago.
When I got my ext170 I inspected the weir area and found gaps like the above said. I filled them in with black silicone.
I believe what happens is the water going over the weir's silicone job that's not flush with the tank causes the gap area to weaken and pull away.
Mine is the acrylic and I have had no issues in 15 months.
I have an ext 50 but it had the weir area flush with silicone not sure if it's acrylic but may have been.

I would nor run the system that way as it may eventually pull completely away from the glass.

It's unfortunate that they did not respond and I get the bad taste.
It can't hurt to contact them again.
Tell them you are thinkg about a new IM but now have concerns.
I would have no concerns ordering a new IM as I just ordered another, an IM ext 112.
Also note acrylic is used on every corner overflow I have ever had with no bonding issue ever.

I've done a bit more research and rumor has it that they switched from acrylic to ABS. I don't know if ABS bonds to glass better, or if it's just because it doesn't warp when it gets wet.

Yeah, mine is similar. I honestly don’t care what it looks like. I’d just like some reassurance that it isn’t going to somehow cause a catastrophic failure.

Well I think it will keep pulling away from the water pressure. I know it sucks but I would get that down asap if it was mine and yea I would not be happy.
