I was hoping for suggestions on powerhead choice and placement. I have a 72x24x24 tank that only currently has a single Sicce xStream SDC and it doesn't seem to be doing enough. I made a VERY crude drawing of my current plan - that I hope you can understand. I was thinking of placing one powerhead on either side of the tank, one higher and one lower. Also to kill the stagnant areas, place two powerheads behind the rockwork. Here is that plan, the yellow circles are powerheads! :) -

First, any suggestions on this plan? Good/bad? Changes? Can I provide more info or photos or anything that would help with input?

Second, I've read a ton of reviews - watched a bunch of videos and I just can't make up my mind on which pumps to get.
I feel like the two in front should be powerful, while the two in back just need to keep some good flow back there to blow away the buildup. I'd really like to have them all controllable on an app. I also REALLY like the idea of being able to point in specific directions if needed.

Would just adding three more of those Sicce Pumps work well in your opinion - or take mine out for emergency/spare use in the future and start fresh?

Thank you!!!!

Don't forget the flow provided by your return pump plus a random flow generator (or two). I like and have used the Sicce pumps so no complaints here with that plan. Coral placement, aquascape, crossflow, and other potential turbulence can come into play so IME start with a general plan and then adapt as it comes together (and as it changes over time). Good luck with whatever direction that you choose!

First time I've heard of a random flow generator! Headed to Google for some info! I do have four returns, so looks like this is another thing I could utilize!

Thank you for replying, sometimes it is hard to get help and tips!

Does anyone know if the Tunze powerheads have an app available like the Sicce one does? I've been searching around and am not finding anything! I keep finding controller info, but nothing about an app to control it.

Thanks!

If you have any questions regarding the Random Flow Generator (RFG) - like how to use them or how to get them attached to you tank, I'm always happy to help where i can.

We have flow kits for pretty much any aquarium on the market

IN same cases you can even do a tank without powerhead and just use RFG nozzles. I think in your case however that would be possible - but adding them to the return line can make a big difference in the flow of the tank

If you want to see an example of a tank that has no powerhead and is flwo 1005 by just RFG nozzle s- checkl out out build thread

Skip to about the 6 to 9th page if you want to skip most of the build stuff and see more of just the results.

My only suggestion on this would be to mind the high of the rockwork - tis always very tempting to build tall, cool looking rock to start. As rule for SPS dominated mixed reef tanks , i generally try and stay to no more than half the overall high of the tank - that gives the coral a place to grow into the fill.

Then - for your powerheads on the side, i would push them to the back corners and point them mor forward.

This will keep them from obstructing you view
