Internal or External protein skimmer for ~230g system?

if you had the space for a external protein skimmer would you go for that or stick with one inside the sump? I can’t decide which to go with for my 180g w/ 75g sump. The sump is in a room next to the tank and there’s plenty of room for a external fwiw

I might consider it if I didn’t have room for one in my sump, or lived in a really warm climate and didn’t want another pump heating my tank water. If neither of those were issues, I would probably stick with an internal one so I wouldn’t have to worry about it overflowing and creating a mess on the floor.

I think I'd stick with internal unless absolutely necessary, the risk of making a mess from an overflow (or into a bucket that would seriously stink up the room) just isn't worth it imo.

For monster tanks it seems external is really your only option, but at that size there's still options on the market for internal.
