I think only the hydra 52 HD can be used with the app without the Director

Hmm. It seems like we had two of these (not the HD version) at the store and they were controlled by an app. I can't remember since they broke and were replaced a while back. Sorry. But the Apex or any of the other controllers in the same group would be fine for controlling them.
