i saw an iPOD touch in action recently, and i really would like to be able to have the free WiFi capability without some sort of monthly fee for internet access.

but when i think about it, kinda sucks the email and calender won't sync with microsoft outlook on my computer.

so what does everyone think? should i get an iPOD touch, or look for something else that can handle phone capabilities as well as able to sync to my home computer?

really, the WiFi is the biggest thing i'm looking for.

my current monthly cell phone bill is like $40, so i really don't want to go with another device that requires a more expensive monthly subscription, $50/month is the max i would want to pay.

i had an iphone and loved it. Until one day i had something in pocket and dropped my iphone in there and sat down...cracked that big ol screen really easy.

they are really cool though...awesome for carrying photos of your corals around...

if youre like me, i forget what i have and dont have sometimes...its nice to have a reference at a LFS to see if you already have something.

i sill say though if you use it for email like i did...the battery life sucks.

wouldnt even keep a charge for a whole day, and being apple, you cant easily replace it.

well, i definitely don't want an iPhone. i was planning on just getting a good iPOD nano, but then realized for an extra $100 i could get the wifi on the iPod touch, which IMO is a nice plus to have. so i'd just carry around the iPod touch and my regular cell phone.

but i'm wondering if there are any other devices out there that are worthy of the same functions that i'm looking for. possibly combining everything into 1 device including phone.

i'd like to stay on my Verizon service though.

i have then enV and i think its ok
i like the gps capabilities even though its not the best and the music capturing thing is cool too
i want to get the voyager though, looks soo much nicer imo
i think you can sync email too but not 100% sure since i dont use my phone for email

You'll have LOTS of fun with an iPod touch. Especially if it's jailbroken. You can get wifi if you have it at your house. But need to pay if you are going to use it outside of your home. It's called edge but there's another one that a little faster. I forget the name though.

whatt...this is a first...what are you talking about i thought IPOD touches could only be used in a wifi area? What is this service called?? i have a jailbroken 32gb touch...i love mine...i am waiting for verizon to get the Iphone...

what the heck are you guys talking about? please explain (keep in mind i know NOTHING about this stuff)

I'd wait until at least June 9th to see what get's released at the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC). There is bound to be some updates for the iTouch given the iPhone is getting a bump.

I had that problem when i first got it. My battery would die after 8 hours or so. I set it to stop automatically looking for new emails and set it to only get new ones when i manually ask it to. My battery lasts 3 days now. Well i should say charge it every third night and i use the phone alot.

I have been more than happy with my Touch. I had to replace my 30 gb iPod and decided to make the jump. Beside it being incredibly sleek, it is incredibly functional. I am sitting in a hotel lobby right now surfing reef2reef..what can be better than that?

I didn't go with iPhone because I already have Helio and can get e-mail that way already.

i cant believe i forgot this point, and i wonder if its a commmon problem, but my iphone would contantly give me a "called failed" when trying to call out. Also, i found that the signal stregth was very poor as well. Which is a bummer because it really is a cool phone.

i switched to verizon, and i couldnt be happier. MUCH better service from start to finish.

It works in hot-spots only.. They should have integrated the Iphones camera & gave it a mobile based OS.. Personally- I think it's just an overpriced Mp3 player w/ web browsing capability's...

All Icing & no cake ;)

might as well get the Iphone
