Hi Reefers,

Hope you are doing well.
I want to post this to get some advices.
I bought a brand new GHL Mitras LX7206 few months ago. Upon installing it this month, I had experienced some challenges:
To summarize:
- The GHL App for mobile device did not work for me. I tried accessing it using 3 different Apple devices. I recorded a video of it (video 1)
- The touch keys on the light fixture did not work. This prevented me from using the light fixture immediately. I installed GHL Control Center on a PC and tried to calibrate the touch keys. After several attempts, it still didn't work (video 2).
Video 1: GHL APP installation issue
Video 2: Touch Key calibration issue

The final solution I had was using a PC Laptop. With a help of a tech savvy friend, we tried to troubleshoot the issue. After unable to access the light fixture via WiFi, we're able to connect to the device by using the USB cable provided. We're able to program the light times. We tried to calibrate the touch keys using the video tutorials from GHL site, but upon trying it 3 times, we still failed. This makes me wonder if there's a defect/issue with the touch key screen.

I recorded videos of the things I tried to do below (video 1 and video 2). I sent the link to GHL so that they can see and advice me on things I didn't do correctly (apologies since I'm not tech savvy). GHL is currently on summer vacation until August 10. I'm trying to see if I can get some help from fellow reefers who own this light and able to successfully set it up.

Thank you
Rudy

Vid 2.. program said not to touch the buttons and you went and touched them? Did I miss something here?

Vid 1 how long did you wait for the firmware to download? It's also possible, though unlikely , that if they are "on vacation" they could have stopped the servers from downloading so people dont screw things up and have nobody to help them.

Anyways tech problems are annoying..

Sis you put in a ticket? That’s the best way to get help. They’ll even call you, take over your computer, and hook you up! They’re nothing short, of amazing!

Hi Oreo54: I followed the instructions GHL posted in their site on how to calibrate.

I was a bit confused as well when the program said not to touch (in GHL tutorial video, once you touch the touch-keys, you'll see the numbers change in the desktop app on each directional buttons). I only managed to see numbers changed one time, but somehow changes were not applied.

I downloaded the software about 2 weeks ago prior to their summer vacation

Hi Saltyfins,

Yes, I opened a ticket 2 weeks ago so I have been corresponding with them. I'm testing step by step on every avenue available. I managed to secure a laptop pc few days ago and that's how I was able to connect to the device via a usb cable.

1 - their "downloads" are not disabled when they are on vacation.

2 - the best (only sane) way for initial programming is using GCC and USB.

3 - capacitive touch keys are an absolute nightmare -- don't waste your time.

4 - Get your Wifi setup using the GCC/USB connection. It is far easier.

5 - Wifi settings require a reboot if the fixture.

6 - GCC can save multiple connections. So make one for USB and one for IP if you want.

7 - you can visit the IP of the fixture directly from PC and get the "local" full web GUI. This is the same GUI exposed through the IOS app.

8 - On IOS you can setup the "local" connection through the GHL app, this is much faster than the cloud connection. You can also setup the cloud connection. But you need to use the GUI (GCC) to enable cloud control, or the app will not connect.

I very much like my GHL devices - but the initial setup, and overall system update process is a nightmare and has not improved (even though they try) in years. Part if this is likely due to legacy decision made when the P4 was released and still also needing to be backward compatible with earlier profilux hardware. There is maybe also a bit of stubbornness to do things "their way" baked in, making change even harder.

Hi BeanAnimal,

Thank you very much for your detailed thoughts and suggestions.
With my limited tech knowledge, I think it's best if I ask my Tech savvy buddy to help me out using your suggestions.
Your explanations on backward compatibility does make a lot of sense (considering some MItras LX6 and profilux from older models are still being used). When my Tech buddy was helping me navigating through the GCC software and troubleshooting the details, he even joked that he hasn't seen this type of software settings for quite some time. Having said that, he's impressed with the device quality and build.

I like the GHL device and the quality of it. Just kind of wishing that their software could be made more easier to use for me who's less tech savvy.
