I just got a bta around a week ago and so far everything’s been going great until 2 days ago. It looked like it was melting and it was completely deflated, but later that day it perked back up again and looked great. It’s been doing this back and forth for a little while now, is this normal? I do water changes every two days since my tank is only 2 months old and it’s a 5 gallon, I also have a baby golden nugget maroon in there (I’m upgrading to a bigger tank later).

It’s mouth is also wide open and half of the foot is off the glass.

Yes it does. BTA often split as a means of self preservation. I suggest you up grade quickly.

Hi! It the mouth being wide open/streched and the foot being off the glass is the most common signs of it splitting. Now, it can either be a good or bad thing.. Splitting usually occurs in reproduction when they are thriving in a happy, healthy enviroment. However, can also be a stress reaction.
Like many invertaberates stability is key.

It can take around 5 days for it to fully split, so a few days ago might've been it first splitting. On the otherhand, a few days ago something might have gone wrong which was corrected and it's now opened back up, but still splitting from the stress reaction 2 days ago.

Hope this helps :)

you're going to want to upgrade sooner than later. 5 gallons is too small for a clownfish, especially a maroon. I can also tell your lighting is insufficient to support the health of a BTA.

Tank looks pretty new aswell..
it certainly is, but I'm trying to break the habit of the blanket statement of "new tanks can't keep nems", because sometimes it works if you're lucky and/or have mature live rock off the jump. Most folks don't listen anyway and you have to let them find out the hard way through anemone killing and wasted money :)
