Is my scoly splitting?

Today while feeding my tank I noticed one of my scoly's fully open as never before. Looked like another scoly popping out. I'm fairly new to the hobby and never see a scoly like this other than opening up at night to eat(but never like this)

. Anyone seen this before? Is this scoly possibly splitting? This first picture is of it fully open and the 2nd is from a few days ago shown normally. Currently it's back to normal.

+1, from my understanding scollys don't split. Looks like it was going to turn inside out to attack or eat.

Wonder if anyone on the #reefsquad has seen a scolly do this before

My bleeding apple scoly opens up much different. Never had seen a scoly open like this. Looked like a scoly on top of another.

Last night.I typically feed my corals at night, especially my acans, welso, scoly's. I use Julian's thing to spot feed mysis, phyto feast, oyster, rotofiers. This occurred while feeding my fish at around 11am this morning.

I was going to say, it could have been a feeding reaction? Or something was in contact with the tissue. Like fish food. My green acan acts weird when I feed the fish, it acts like it's got a split lip when a piece of food touches the side.

Another possibility is there was something crawling on or around it, and it's a defense mechanism.

You should see what happens when my acanthophyllia gets hungry. It's the size of a dinner plate, is capable of eating large hermits and looks like something out of science fiction when it's feeders are out. :eek:

Scoly's to me are alien like with their tentacles out. Then when feed mode is over there so cute looking lol

This is completely normal for when they eat mine would do this very often when I fed and during the night.

Definitely a feeding response. I've seen them literally turn inside out. Nice scoly you got there.
