I’m going to use 5 micron socks for my tank and I read this:
Filter socks are primarily made up of two types of felt type material polyester and polypropylene. I prefer to use polyester filter socks for a couple of main reasons. First, I like to machine wash my filter socks and find that after a few washes polypropylene filter socks will start to bunch up like a sweater, leading to less efficient filtering and lower lifetime usage.

Is this true? What about mesh 5 micron socks? What’s the best material for long term use? It’s very important to me that the socks keep its 5 micron size.

Most aquarium socks are 100 or 200 micron
If you go with 5 micron they might clog fast.
I would use mesh if going that small if you can find them. They will be easier to clean
