I just was wondering if adding trace elements into kalk with vinegar is possibly not a best way to dose the trace?!?

Calcium hydroxide + Carbon + Trace okay?

*I think it’s been working fine but just wondering…. Since I don’t do ICP but corals looks fine.*

Quick googling says according to science direct

It can affect the behavior and availability of trace elements through various mechanisms like sorption, precipitation, complexation

Currently I am mixing:

- 5Gal RODI
-75 Grams ESV Kalk
-40oz of white distilled vinegar
-10 Drops of Isol8 MT containing below ingredients. It is suggested to dose 1 drop per 25Gal daily. And I don’t think jist putting a drop is a good idea specially on a nano tank. I’m using 10 drops instead of 14+ drops as suggested.
  • Iodide
  • Molybdenum
  • Nickel
  • Zinc
  • Manganese
  • Selenium
  • Vanadium
  • Iron
  • Copper
  • Cobalt
I am wondering if I should put the trace elements (isol8 mt) on a separate doser diluted with RODI.

This is a complex question which involves looking up the high pH solubility of ions I am uncertain of, but some will potentially precipitate from kalk , such as iron.

Iodide is ok initially, but the concern with it is that it may air oxidize fairly rapidly to iodate. That’s not a huge problem, but may reduce its bioavailability.

I’d personally not bother if your traces come as a mix.

Eventually, I do think I will separate the trace dosing from kalk dosing for optimal impact. They are “all in a drop” but I think I will eventually like to experiment with trace dosing.

Currently on roughly 50 gallon tank, I have evaporation rate of 3liter (after adding home dehumidifier). I like to get more evaporation for extra dosing but I don’t want to add extra cooling fan or a heater in the summer time.

With high pH from kalk, I am guessing it will have effects for sure. I dont know if others do as I do but I’m glad Ive asked :)

Thank you.
