I’m hunting for a mantis shrimp and pulled out a chunk of rock. This guy came with it. Is it a gorilla crab? I intentionally added a few ruby mithrax crabs, but pretty sure this guy is a hitchhiker. He has distinctive black tipped claws.
Meanwhile, I have the rock in a bucket of water. I’m pretty sure the mantis shrimp is burrowed in a hole. I’m trying to bait him out with a chunk of raw shrimp. Any other tips?

Yup trouble maker.

Mantis in rock. Nasty nasty player.

Me, I’d turn up he heat on the nasty critter if I’m not keeping the rock, or the mantis.

Good for you if you got him. Mine took out three fish before destroyed.

Thanks for confirming the gorilla.

I confirmed that the mantis shrimp is in the rock. He’s poked out his ugly little green head a few times but is too smart to come out.

There’s another crab on the rock, but pretty certain this is one of the ruby mithrax crabs. Can you please confirm?

Congrats at isolating that mantis-beast.
I removed every single crab 6 years ago now and I am so glad I did! I trust not one.
Mysterious disappearances stopped.
Everyone out and about.
Can’t think of the value crabs have in mixed reefs.
Did nothing positive in my systems…..so fired…

Yeah the mantis and gorilla are hitchhikers from the TBS live rock and are just one downside that come with the benefits. But I kind of regret adding the mithrax crabs intentionally. I’ll always eye them with suspicion but I’ll give them a try with the mantis out.

These are the only crabs I tolerate. Also TBS Live Rock Hitchhikers. Porcelain Crabs.

My ruby started getting a taste for corals, he was double this size. Had to re-home him.

I enjoy two stone crabs I can’t get out, I’ve caught or killed 20 gorillas too. Still have about 5-7 that I can’t get to. I’m seriously entertaining catching as many crabs as I can and doing an interceptor treatment. I’ll have to repopulate pods and the alike. But, I don’t think I can let these things get to a point of creating tangsuey.
