Can anyone help me identify what this is?

About 9 months ago, I had a kenya tree on the top of my scape, then removed it and gave it to a friend. Now, this little thing has been growing for the past month or so and popped up out of the rock work. Don't know if it's a little piece of the Kenya Tree that had dropped off into some hole and has now grown out of it, or if it's another type of soft coral, or something else.

Looks like it. Some people don't like them because they can regrow from any pieces left, and will drop branches/bits of tissue in order to spread. I personally like them, but it might be good to take it out if you don't want a full tank of them.

They will not take over your tank - in my experience.

Good trouble: Have mushrooms ever become pests in your aquarium?
