Great deal on a 3/4” frag plug! I should be totally honest though, it’s a 2cm frag plug
@Troylee gets my sense of humor, haha

Having seen the mother colony, yeah, that's a beautiful piece of acropora. No acropora is beautiful enough for me to spend $800 for it. I don't begrudge other people who do.

I am still at the stage where I can buy cheap corals that are new to me. Once I have grown colonies of all the different cheaper corals, maybe I could be persuaded to start spending a bit more money.

What makes an expensive coral expensive? Or rather what makes you want that coral?
Green smoothie with reddish PE and pink coralites.

This coral very similar to the one you had pictured, greenish skin and pink polyps. It's mariculture and I got the whole colony for 120$. Corals have become way over priced and it's one of the reasons I'm moved away from the online retailers and back to my local shop and other local reefers for most of my corals now.

Now that looks like a more accurate picture of what it would really look like.

And honestly a nice looking coral without all the post processing.

The dilemma becomes, if vendors shared a more realistic photo, they wouldn't be able to command the prices they set.

But it's a predatorial mentality of preying on the revolving door of new hobbyists that have little clue about what they're doing.

I would say it is supply and demand and color.
Humans are attracted to colors like bees to flowers.
But my favorite is rainbows.

Ok so we debated long enough on this. I used this post as an exercise. The story behind this coral is I purchased it as an unknown green frag. When it started to grow out I was very pleasantly surprised. I was recently looking at higher end corals the other day and was surprised at the high prices attached to Just ok looking corals. Then I started to think about what makes an expensive coral. I chose my little special unknown coral as an example. I appreciate everyone giving their opinion on the issue.
