Is this Ich on my PBT?

@Jay Hemdal I lost PBT overnight :(

My Blue tang doesnt have any white spots but is hiding more than usual today.. didnt come out to greet me.. I know you mentioned yellow tang may have something too.. I am lost at this point..

Do you have any opinion about https://humble.fish/community/threads/peroxide-h2o2-dosing-for-parasites-in-reef-tank.725/ ? I saw a lot of people having success with it, not sure if its safe for other fish.. I dont have any inverts, and very few corals.. Is it worth trying? Please suggest

I was able to get blue tang out (its in the sump right now).. @vetteguy53081 @Jay Hemdal can you please share any documentation around how to treat it with copper and prazipro? How often do I need to change water to keep Ammonia low? Also, is it important to remove all fish or I can do ich management and only treat fish that are showing any symptoms?

Im not a fan of peroxide which is an oxidizer. May help with early stage velvet and thats about it
For coppersafe or copper Power, run at 2.25ppm for a full 30 days and then do a good water change and dose PraziPro at 85% of recommended dosage applying dose and allowing it to work for 8 days, do a water change and do one more dose lasting 8 days. Also add air stone especially with praziPro which reduces oxygen slightly.
Change water based on ammonia tests and use a reliable test kit such as Hanna brand.
Treat all fish to assure parasites die off and leave display tank fishless (fallow) for 6-8 weeks to assure any protozoans have died off without a host fish. Coral and inverts can remain in display tank during 6-8 week period

Sorry to hear about the PBT. It had a moderately severe case of ich, but I didn't think it would die that fast....

I'm not a fan of trying to use peroxide to treat active infections of ich. It's complicated, but the basic issue is that the amount of free peroxide in the water is dependent on the organic levels in the water (which break down peroxide before it can actively kill the ich theronts). That means that using ANY sort of advice that suggests "add this much peroxide" is going to be fatally flawed - the amount needed varies hugely from tank to tank. Using a peroxide test helps with that, but it's still very tricky. Also, you can't dose peroxide high enough to cure ich without killing some invertebrates (especially shrimp).

In terms of a process to handle ich and flukes in aquarium fish is covered in this protocol:

Hi @Jay Hemdal & @vetteguy53081 quick question - in a situation like this where you have multiple fish & limited space for QT; would it be an option to remove rock & substrate (placing them in totes with water & heater), then keep the tank running possibly below the overflow line & then dose copper/prazi? Is there concerns of leeching from the seams?
Sorry @bangbang didnt mean to hijack 😅

Do not treat the display tank. The option would be a rubbermaid tub or large tote set up as a quarantine tank and treating fish accordingly. Leave display running 6-8 weeks without fish (coral and inverts can remain) which will allow parasites to die off without a host fish

Coppersafe and copper power won’t absorb onto bare surfaces in a tank, but it seems to be a lot of work to do. Can’t you just set up the tub you would but the rock in to treat the fish?

thanks @vetteguy53081 @Jay Hemdal .. I did a freshwater dip for my Blue tang and added it to QT with copper at 2.25 as suggested.. today I woke up and saw some white spots on clowns too.. I guess it will become inevitable at some point to treat all the fish :(

Can you guys confirm if this is ich and if clowns are ok with 5 minute fresh water dip before adding them to the same QT as Blue tang.. Attaching pics and video

I believe I mentioned treating all the occupants and looks like ich. 2.25ppm for 30 days as well

thanks @vetteguy53081 .. I just starting to feed them well with Selcon and Vitachem + frozen, pellets, flakes.. I am also planning to get UV light to start practicing Ich Management.. I was hoping to treat fish if they show symptoms since I am unable to take them all out and treat them together unfortunately.. I hope they build immunity!

I can certainly put these clowns in the copper QT tank with Blue tang, but I see little stringy poop as well which is treated by PraziPro as I just read.. I have already done 1 round of Prazipro in my DT, do you suggest doing 2nd round (today is day 8) before moving them to QT or move them to QT first, treat for Ich followed by Prazipro treatment?

Yeah - looks like ich. You’ll need to treat all fish and leave the tank fishless for 60 days.

Thanks both of you again! I pulled out Blue Tang and Clowns and currently being treated in QT with Copper at 2.25

I havent seen any white spots on any of the other fish in my DT yet, but I see the tangs twitching and scratching a a lot.. Is that also something ICH can cause? I looked up twitching on R2R and suggestions were that it is due to flukes.. I have completed 2 rounds of prazipro in my DT already in last 2 weeks so not sure if it is still flukes or just ich (but with no white spots)

Ich is less likely to cause twitching and scratching than flukes do.

When was the last dose of Prazipro?

4 days ago, 8 days after the 1st dose

Here is a video that shows Yellow Tang twitching.. you can also see Convict tang scratching against sand and rocks.. Shall I do another dose of Prazi, maybe a little more intensified this time? No white spots, eating ok but behaving abnormally a little, I am worried it may get worse soon

Also, will switching to General Cure help now that Prazi hasnt worked, maybe its an internal infection? I saw stingy poop in water column similar to what I reported for clowns the other day, only bigger this time!

While the fish may well have some internal issue, the scratching is from some external irritation. I don’t see any detritus particles in the water - so flukes are the most likely reason.

Don’t use General Cure if you have any invertebrates in the tank, but you may find it more effective than Prazipro.

I don’t have any inverts but a few corals.. I assume it’s safe to use in DT @Jay Hemdal .. there are mixed reviews online so confirming before I do it.. also, when shall I do it given that it’s 5th day of Prazi (2nd dose).. do you suggest a water change before adding GC?

Corals are invertebrates - General Cure cannot be used with them. It is only safe to use in fish-only tanks. Prazipro or plain praziquantel IS safe to use with invertebrates.

@Jay Hemdal tired of white spots, I have decided to go hypo in my DT.. I have moved corals to a hospital tank, there are no inverts in my tank.. I am at 1.012 today (2nd day), tomorrow will reach 1.009 value.. Question though, I see Bubble eyes on my blue tang, File Fish and 2 of the 3 Pajama Cardinals.. Reading your previous comments on similar posts, this seems to be bacterial which wont be eradicated by hypo and needs separate treatment.. Shall I dose Kanaplex in DT or do you suggest anything else in the display? Also what dose do you recommend? Here are couple of pics of Cardinals
