AFAIK the IM tanks are fully supported but maybe some of the smaller ones aren't? The stand was a big deciding factor for my upcoming tank for sure.

Engineers call it AOG, the consumers call it Murphy's law šŸ˜‚
I believe you’re correct about innovative marine, I know for sure other manufacturers use overhang to give that ā€œfloatingā€ effect. Waterbox definitely has overhang on almost all their models. Red Sea as well (terrible example lol)

I think it keeps pressure from pushing up on the front glass. Larger tanks some times have thicker bottom glass to bond the sides more to , or a frame.

After careful consideration and a significant lack of patience, I decided to not worry about it.

Well.... yeah. In engineering we call those AOG - Acts of God. That's an actual legal term for issues outside of design that happen randomly and can not be engineered out.
What? The engineers blame god for all the tank chips, cracks and breaks that routinely happen, especially when people are moving large glass tanks or when children (or clumsy adults like me) pound on the glass edge with a metal spoon, hammer, toy, or just a coffee cup and then the tank owner posts on Reef2Reefs asking how to repair or replace the chipping glass if it’s a serious issue or not,…?

The legal aspect I will not speak to because I am not a lawyer but I do comprehend the complexity of that aspect and would only say that if I had a lawyer She would work for Humpty and Dumpty esquires šŸ˜‡šŸ˜‚

I sincerely pray that none of us will experience a tank failure as we celebrate the season of Christmas. šŸŽ…

Good choice lol.

When it comes to something more than 100 gallons, I would agree with the rest of you and over-engineer the tick out of the stand just for some peace of mind. That and attempting to not get divorced in the case of an AOG. šŸ˜‚

My Waterbox 175 is like that. Edge is flush with the doors closed, but with them open, there is an overhang.

I'm currently setting up a NYOS 440 G2 100 gallon with the slim cabinet. Its built the same way, and I was wondering if either bottom glass brace or top euro brace was worth it. I contacted them and they told me they had no report of tank failure and that modifications would likely void the warranty of the tank.

I think we are all scared because of Red Sea's issues, which is likely not the overhang of similar tank from other brand don't seem to be failing. (Any catastrophic failure on waterbox?).
