Hi again, might be a stupid question but what is this on the back of the starfish? Should it be there?
Thanks.

My partner noticed this thing even though she has little or no interest in the aquarium and she commented that it wasn't there before. Has it flipped over, or is it a growth or parasite? Just doesn't seem right not being in the center of the body

Maybe it’s something normal though, I really don’t know. I know starfish can expel their gut to eat, but I thought that was from the under side.

Whatever it is, it looks like some sort of filter feeder but it's exactly the same color as the starfish so it can't be a hitchhiker, can it?

This starfish is now getting all over the tank. Looks really healthy and seems to be feeding on algae and detritus. I'm really pleased 'cos this has been the most worrying thing I've encountered up to now. Just lucky, I suppose, but it certainly keeps me thinking!!!

I would love a starfish in my tank and my 4 year old keeps begging me to get one but I've only got a new tank at 9 months old so will wait till tank matures more if at all.as often read they don't do to well in tanks, but maybe some have great success and keep them years,I will research them more once my tank matured more then decide,
Beautiful creatures though ^_^ so good luck and hopefully yours is healthy and lives long
