Hey Reefers, so recently I won some auctions and overpaid shipping. The reason I won’t name the store is because I could be wrong, and don’t want to defer business. I was gifted a credit with my overpaid shipping to use on their website so I did. I went to the WYSIWYG section and looked at the zoas. I found they had a colony for sale and loved the look. So I purchased it excited to see how it’ll look. When it arrived it was nice. I’m not sure the name of the zoas but I’m also sure it’s not the same coral. I would love input and opinions. Another reason they will be left unnamed is I’m fairly new to reefing and such so I can’t act like I know better than a company older than I’ve been in the hobby. Thank you all in advance !!!!!
Hopefully you can tell which picture is mine (the more dark blue tone)

Probably had more than one and shipped u the wrong. Looks like I got the same deal though. I’m sure if I complained to them they will compensate on your next order. Assuming they are a decent vendor…

I could be very wrong here but it looks like the same zoa colony to me

I think they may be the same. The very large polyp is present in both. Yours are under tank light and the vendor photo is heavily edited to make it look appealing. I have one vendor I'll order from online all the rest I don't even shop because of the heavily manipulated photos. I can't believe how many people ooh and ah over them like they're real.

I find it interesting that they over charged you on shipping then gave you store credit instead of a refund. Sounds pretty sketchy and a lot like a vendor i had trouble with in the past.

That’s not the same Polyp or location. But it’s the exact same color type of zoas. I think they actually got a larger colony than in the photo

Makes sense. See I’m new to buying especially online. And it was my first auction; granted should I have read the rules better. Still a little sketchy after the fact of photoshopping, and that. I doubt I’ll order again from them. Where do you shop? Aswell as what could be the total diffrence in colors. I mean in the picture there’s 0 red on the species involving the Big Polyp in there photo.

At first sight I was thinking the same but the more you look the more I think no. Red zoas and green are reverse between the 2 photos. But mainly the red have green tentacles and on photo 2 it is full red. You can edit to change all the colors but not only the tentacles on 1 type of zoa.

I don't think it's the same. I've bought several WYSIWYG corals that came in looking different but that was because the photo was old and the coral grew since the pic was taken. but while same type of zoas the two on top seem flipped to me.

The circled like like a closed polyp of the same colony, not a giant palythoa looking thing.

Just counting polyps on the bottom coral it's certainly not the same rock. That said it seems you got a larger colony. Definitely not "wysiwyg" in the strictest sense but I don't think it's necessarily rare in this industry.. Also seems like the left and right colonies are reversed from what was advertised.

I'd bring your concern to the vendor and their response should tell you a lot about them. If they say what they sent you is the same blend of corals and that's what they intended by "wysiwyg" then ok, little shady but normal shady for this industry. If they try to tell you what they sent you is exactly what was pictures, bail bail bail. No amount of lighting tweaks will conjure a random palythoa into being.

I emailed them asking about it. I agree with it being just totally different and the colors switched. It’s a shame company’s take “pride” in this hobby to really only care about the money.

I've had good luck with tidal gardens tho their photos look a little cooked to me now that Than the owner is no longer taking the photo. Battle corals has never disappointed tho Adam is mostly SPS

Heard a lot of great things about battle. I’ll definitely need to check them out.

id be happy honestly, got the three main coa types, and not the paly…more polyps as well
I think the color of your tank lights and the photo are the main culprit for your questioning

Following along. I am too new to have a valid opinion that has any actual knowledge behind it.

Learning about online corals. Just bought my first order, so I am anxious to see what I end up getting.
