Maybe this is a loaded question because maybe the answer lies somewhere in the middle. The fact of the matter is that we set our reefs up for our enjoyment, and I hope that is what we are all getting out of it for the most part, but sometimes unexpected things happen, and maybe the relaxation part of your reef is temporarily paused...

You always have the best gifs to post with these :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
Mine was a stress reducer. Sit back and watch the tank.
Was definitely a stress inducer at the very end.

To remove the stress, I keep easy to maintain systems. However, after 55 years, it’s a passion and I am addicted. Because I am retired, time management is easy, so no stress.

In a post that I read this morning, the OP commented about the simple wonder of watching our critters. He laughed about the hermit crab that moved to a bigger shell only to decide it was too big & heavy and to “jump back” into the old shell.

My grandson is graduating high school this year as an Eagle Scout. I remember when he was 2 years old and we lay on our bellies to peer into the world of the little people in the algae/mud refugium. Armed with a lighted magnifying glass we saw it for the wonder that it was.

For 35/years, I worked on and peered into the deep blue as a subsea engineer in offshore drilling. It has enriched my perspective of all life forms as I attempt to be a good steward of the life in my ecosystems.

When it looks good, it is very enjoyable. I don't know if i would call it a stress reliever. For that I take xanax. When I have to get my hands wet because frags get knocked over or I cant reach a patch of algae, many F%&^ get yelled out loud.

Definately it's been both for me. Right now everything is good; I'm going to be picking up some new pieces today!

I have mine as I have had for decades and I have it for enjoyment, not stress. Whether its relaxing in the living room, cooking or having a meal, I have a view of the tank and enjoy what I see especially at feeding time for which I have a box that arrived today from Live Aquaria with 17 packs of assorted frozen food

Mostly reducer, except when you hear a water sound that's not quite right. You all know what I mean. Drip drip, splash, water trying to move against a snail impending the overflow. It's a noise that something is a miss and you're not going to rest until you discover the cause.

I think it sometimes depends on where you are in the process of your tanks maturity. For example, one month ago my 75 gallon was running without any concerns. Two weeks ago I upgraded to my 170 gallon so there is more stress while making sure that everything is working correctly, parameters stay stable, trying to figure out the new dosing amounts, and hoping that the transferred livestock transition well. Ask me again after this first year is over and my answer will probably be back down to stress reducer.
