It's Just a Tank

The problem is, I am terrible at capturing certain colors. That's why filters are made for cameras. But I hate the colors the filters provide. They are not true to eye. So, i'll keep trying. That pectinia in the corner is extremely vibrant. Just, the correct angle is complicated due to her shape.

Most of the time it's just Christmas in there . Green and red. I hate christmas. But, I can't escape the green and reds....

You and I are the same with the picture not capturing the colors and the hatred for Christmas ha-ha

I just hate the cost of mark ups on items. Don't get me started on valentines and mothers day. I told my husband NO stuff ever. Mind you my birthday is on the 9th and I feel like as a mother,. I am being extorted for existing.

As for cameras... Samsung says they have empowered their s24 ultra to help the reefs with their new camera features. I might try it sometime.

Seems they might be the only one in to this.. I just wonder how the pictures would look from our tanks. Glass blocks a lot of detail. That's why "top down" photos exist.

👁️👄👁️ that's the phone I have.... about to go deep dive that article you linked

edit; there is no 'ocean mode' on my camera 😒

I have a heck of a time trying to capture anything true to life except for during a very specific window during the day when the whites are peaking. I have a set of filters, but as you mentioned they don't provide true to life colors... I also bought some for my wife's camera, but ditto there.

Ah well, it's "water change only" season now - I'll likely pick back up on the photography ideas either during a spell of poor weather, or once the warmer months pass.

14k is easier to get pictures under than 24k. Deep blue pops those bright reds for me. Too bad most of my coral hate 10k. They wont open :(

Truthfully I couldn't tell you my regular spectrum, I just run the AB+ template on my Radions.. Whites do peak around midway through the schedule which is when I tend to get the best color out of photos.

My tank is still very blue even at 10% whites. I tried to ramp up to 15% and all my coral said "nope." They retracted and wouldn't come out until I went back to 10%. But, my anemone "bring the light!"

Bta's seem to worship white lights.

Natural sunlight has a lot of added benefits. LOTS it prevents hlle disease, helps coral process nutrients better. My tank is in the worst spot to get their daily sunshine. I know a lot of people speak against it. But, my last reef was extremely happy with the sunshine.

So, congrats to you!

As I say all of the time, I'm a vibe based reefer. The vibe of sunlight on the tank is great. I don't care if I get a little bit of extra algae or whatever... I have a tang and fox face that will eat it. I try to keep things as natural as possible, while still making it aesthetically pleasing to look at it. I don't vibe with the totally sterile tank looks, personally.

No, I am not about no algae. There are algae grazers for reasons in many shapes, sizes, and forms. I really wish I could give the tank 4+ hours of sunlight. It helps so much to the overall health.

When I had natural sunlight, blastos, frogspawn, montipora, zoas, leathers coral. They grew like mad. Now it's a fight to get even zoas to grow. Sure, acros can grow ok. Having to nuke the tank with nutrients sucks.

There was a build thread somewhere on here where the person built a dedicated skylight for their tank and I always loved it. I'm a big fan of the windex look, don't get me wrong - but if I could do all of my supplemental lighting with natural sunlight I'd be super happy.

This new Samsung would be very helpful when diving. I have a special case for it so need to research.
