man its that time of year again... summer... when tanks are forgotten about. The lfs gets les and les customers a day. Business slows up. and is it just me.. or is there an increasing amount of people getting out of the hobby for various reasons. i mean with the nice weather and family and other activities it seems people sometimes just forget about their tank during the summer or decide its time to quit.

Agree. People are going on vacations with the family. They don't think about the tank it crashes they give up. They need money for the vacation so they sell off the tank. On the other hand us who are fully addicted and don't have the time or money to go on vacation end up with great deals from teardowns and slow business. I tend to buy more during summer then any other time. Starting in October till June is when everyone in my family is having birthday, weddings, anniversaries, holidays, ect. So I have no money then to buy anything. Summer is easy. Plus I live 30 mins away from the beach and 1.5 hours away from my favorite fishing spot so I luck out in that way.

Haha Yeah im trying to take advantage of all the people who are in desperate need of getting something for their tank because they just wanna get rid of it. I'm TRYING emphasis on trying to trade/buy a 220. we have 3 tanks already in the house. Mine being the smallest Lol so i wanna try to buy used equipment extremely cheap this summer if i have the money so i can get the tank ive dreamed of. I personally always make time for my tank. The winter is when im busiest because of hockey and other activities like snowboarding. But i always find the time to just sit and stare at my tank.

Like there were so little people at the lfs the other day when i went. Me and my family and a man and his daughter. And two employees. Its quite depressing on one hand. But on the other offers an opportunity for expansion

In my area there are more people upgrading and new people starting than quitting. Maybe it's just boring up here...lol.

Even though quitting and teardowns are not a good sign for the hobby, I could use a good teardown around here with a skimmer for my 125G upgrade...lol. Just remember most that do quit will end up with another tank in the future.

Thats odd hahahaha most people here go other places or are out a lot. between things like golfing family outings camping trips people seem to get bored with or forget their tanks or need the money for vacations like it was mentioned earlier. Teardowns benefit us but not the hobby as a whole. It hurts my local dealer with business this slow. In the winter they've made about 2,000 in one day and its PACKED!! yet now they get less and less shipments and seem to not really struggle but find it more difficult to sell their livestock and other items

Yeah I can see how it can cause issues. I know even I slow down in the summer time as there is so much to do, but I do not neglect the tank. There are many others who are doing upgrades or experimenting with multiple tanks for specific types of care. My upgrade is in the planning stages still since I need to get through the wedding first ;)

I know it seems slower for the LFS here in town as it isn't as packed as it usually is. I'd say it slows down, but doesn't flip into the negative where there are more getting out than start if you look at the total numbers.

Yeah hahahaha im trying to start a stockpile of used cheap equipment for an upgrade hahahaha we'll see if i can get it super cheap... because the extra cash is hard to come by now a days...:/
